How long does it take to finish Fallout new vegas? Is it longer than fallout 3?

It depends on how much you explore, talk with people and complete quests. I did it in 100 hours, though the average is usually 60.

Going straight through the main quest less then 15. But you can easily play for like 100 hours. And if you do finish it in less than 15 your not playing it right!

Think its a bit shorter than FO3 if you compare going through both games just straight through the main quests.

But like I said earlier, if you do your just not playing the game right!

It's much longer than stock FO3 (no DLCs) because the many more side quests matter in the game's ending. Sticking strictly to the MQ. NV can be much shorter, or it can be much longer, depending on the choices made.

I'm a little over 50 hours in, and have barely scratched the surface of the main quest. Walking everywhere, not running, and very little fast travel. I could easily get another 50 hours out of this character.

i was tryin to finish it quick on my second try so i can get the hardcoe achievement and turn off hardcoe. i mean so i was just focused on the main story and not anythin else and beat it in 16hrs. plus after you know what to do and where to go its a lot quicker. took me 36hrs my first time because i was just playin the game, not tryin to rush for any reason.

So you guys are saying that size really does matter?

My first time through I spent a week of vacation on one slow walk to the end of the main story line. WAY over 100 hours. Of course I wandered a lot, looked behind every hill and under every rock, took a TON of side quests, recruited every companion... and enjoyed the entire experience.

I'd fall into the 55-60 hour mark first playthru. But that was skipping/probably missing quite a few sidequests plus, of course the newness of the experience & fiddling around. Normally I'm a do-everything sort but about half way through the game I realized the game was too massive quest-wise even for me so I was fine leaving stuff for other chrs. I tend to get a little impatient re:quest-overload after 40 hours....heh.

On subsequent characters it's a lot faster since I have foreknowledge, but it's still about 30 hours to just do everything I can do before entering the Strip/main quest...(I use Fast Travel a lot)...so an average of 40 hrs if I finished whole thing, not just straight main plot, each time, perhaps.

I clocked up 140 hours on my first playthrough, and I purposely left a handful of locations unexplored so I'd have something new to do on my next game. BUT I don't fast travel at all, and I spent a good few hours obsessively decorating my four safe houses, so drop a few hours for that because I doubt anyone else does that.

But by god if there was a competition for that I bet I'd win it!

I don't know how it is for others, but my game includes time spent paused via the ESC key as time played for the number given in save game names (I tested it to be sure, once, and yup). So I have a difficult time knowing exactly how many hours on a character, because I tend to hit ESC and run off for long periods of time. heh

It's not the size of the game that matters but how you play it.

I'd say MQ feels longer, but sometimes it's hard to say where MQ ends and a side-quest begins.

Umm, this is just how it is for me, but I've spent a lot more time on my NV playthroughs than I did with my FO3 ones. Just getting to the Strip usually takes me about 20-30 hours, since I like taking my time with exploring/loitering/doing lots of the sidequests. I'm usually anywhere between 40-80 hours by the time I've finished the MQ and reached the ending.

I don't know how it is for others, but my game includes time spent paused via the ESC key as time played for the number given in save game names (I tested it to be sure, once, and yup). Ahah, I do that too (and have the same issue lol), though I just leave my Pipboy screen open instead of pressing ESC.
Sometimes I even sleep through the night while my game's running in the background. Ha, it's like I try to torture my laptop. D':

The length really varies depending on a number of things. How fast you tackle the main quest, how much you explore, how many sidequests you decide to do, whether you fast travel or not etc.

For me, the game feels a lot bigger than F3 because there is a lot more quest content, more characters to talk to, factions to align with (or destroy) and so forth. On the other hand, some F3 fans are disappointed that there are not as many dungeons in this game.

But yeah, I think there's a *lot* more content in NV.

A brazen, I want to finish this asap, approach would take 10-20hours maximum; other than that the slightest detour can add 5 hours!

125-130 hrs, I could have gone faster and I could have gone slower. And yes I used fasttravel.
For some reason it seems smaller then FO3 but they reuse some areas heavely. Nothing wrong with that. But the geografy with the cliffs etc prevents the type of exploring that I did in FO3. I left some areas untouched because of all the damn cliffs.

One character can easily go over 200 hours doing everything and exploring everywhere. No fast travel. If you fast travel than you really miss a lot of what's going on in the game.
