Consistent CTDs

Hi, all... it seems I've been having a string of stability issues lately :( Anywho, this one seems to have sneaked up on me. I've made absolutely zero changes today, and I've been able to play for hours and then close the game normally. Now, I CTD almost as soon my save loads. Like I said, I've not changed anything in my load order, or even my mods' settings. I fast-traveled to the Imperial City's palace district, waited until morning (in-game), and then talked to an NPC. After leaving the dialogue, I got a CTD. Getting back into the game, I CTD about ten seconds into the game. I have time to fast-travel somewhere or do a coc (to toddtest, for example), but it doesn't seem to matter. No matter where I end up, interior, exterior, city, wilderness, I just CTD. P.S. I know a strategy would be to disable some things and see if it works, but I honestly have no clue where to begin with that process :shrug: Maybe a suggestion about what to disable could point me in the right direction :)

just go thor ug h your list and disable about three to five at a time and keep testing.

Just an idea but have you tried the "Remove Bloat..." option on your save in Wrye Bash?

I have, actually. No bloat found :shrug: What sorts of things can happen in game that could cause such CTDs, with no change in load order? Now that I think about it, while I HAVE started a new game successfully, I've not yet tried loading a much earlier save... I'll give that a try now.

[EDIT] So, I've isolated the CTD to the palace, ONLY AFTER I wait 'til morning. Could perhaps some NPC that travels there after sunrise be causing this? If so, then why doesn't it help to go elsewhere?

There was a thread about corrupt spawn points somewhere and a long explanation about how to fix them(the introduction may appeal to you :P).

I see you're using streamline, some people have reported consistant crashes after a while using streamsave(if you use that part of streamline that is), don't know how true it is though(may be something else altogether).

Well, it seems now that the crash happens AFTER I wait, no matter where I am. If I stay in Bruma instead of going to the Imperial City, CTD. If I coc to Toddtest and THEN wait until morning, CTD. I can hang out for as long as I want before I wait, so it's something to do with that. Not sure if it's the time of day or if it's the wait feature itself, though, because I really don't want to hang around for five hours, even if it's in-game hours. My next step will be to disable streamsave. Maybe that's it, and I'm not noticing that my CTDs coincide with a save attempt. DarklyDreaming, in case that's it, do you know of any fix for it?

You know that streampurge(part of streamline) purges the memory after wait/sleep?
I would try disabling streamline altogether and see if it still crashes.

Okay, so... weirdness... I'm 99% sure that it's the time of day that's the issue. I tried waiting one hour at a time, and experienced no issue until I waited from 4:37 to 5:37. This time, I'm going to try waiting longer. Maybe it will clear up if I wait until the afternoon or something.

Okay, I have no idea what's going on here... I waited four hours, so it was 4:26. I set Cobl's clock function to display every minute, so I could time things exactly. Then, I just sat there. As soon as 4:59 hit, CTD. I repeated this two more times. 4:59? CTD. What happens at 4:59 that's making my game crash?! This is driving me bonkers.

[EDIT] I AM able to wait 24 hours. I tried using this to hide in toddtest and wait three days for cell reset before going back into the world, but I still get the same crash any time after 4:59. I'm now going to start waiting one hour less each time, to see at what time I DON'T get a CTD.

[EDIT again] After waiting 23 hours, until 11:32 PM, I did NOT get a CTD. But after waiting 22 hours, until 10:32, I did. So, the cutoff is somewhere in that range. CTDs start at 4:59 and end somewhere between ten and eleven thirty. Maybe 10:59? That's just a shot in the dark, no reason to think there's that sort of pattern.

Try removing that. The plugin has a known issue with one of its AI packs that can cause crashes like you describe at 5am game time.

:shakehead: I even went so far as deleting the file before rebuilding my Bashed Patch, and then waiting for cell reset before trying to wait past 5:00... still get a CTD. Maybe some other mod has an AI issue at the same time? It would be one hell of a coincidence, but what else could it possibly be? Is there a way to use TES4Edit to look at what mods have AI happening at that time?

I've figured it out... I have no idea what's happening, but the crash seems to be cause by the Dark Forest module of Unique Landscapes :shrug: I'll drop a post over in that thread letting them know about it. Weird.
