Transportation networks: What do you use? Why? What do you l

Post » Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:12 pm

I am trying to decide which one to use.

I had installed Elessar_VPR's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4520 but only used the mage guild TP before redoing my game.

I notice that all 3 make mention of horse/carriage/ship and one person asked on http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21999 comments if you actually move in "real time" or just fast travel when using the service (like using a mage teleport in Elessar's version).

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31991 says for horses you get a guide that goes with you and you can pay him like a taxi driver to stick around longer.

For anything that isn't a mage TP, do you actually move on a ship / horse / carriage and can watch?

I also noticed the OBSE mod support that includes these mods that I have: Arthmoor's villages (I have all of them), The Elder Council (Arenthia), Elsweyr Anequina, Bartholm, Knights of the Nine, Sutch, Fort Akatosh...I have downloaded but not installed that are listed: Glenvar Castle, Battlehorn Castle, Integration (guild guides are integrated into the guild guide quests).

I wonder if all these are compatible to sit side-by-side like competitors for your business?

If you have Arthmoor's villages (as I do) then I would recommend his Cyrodiil Travel Services, as that is designed to cater to, and fit in perfectly with the villages as well.
No you don't get to experience the travel in any way, it is much like fast travel in that respect, except the travel time is taken into account in that you will arrive at your new destination with a loss of what would have been the time it takes to travel that far, be that by carriage or ship etc. (Just imagine that you slept through the journey or whatever.)

As for compatibility; I really couldn't say, the authors would probably know better.

Of which, a new version was just released this morning. :celebration:

I guess I will experiment then since that other one seems to say, at least with horse guides, that you get to "slow-boat" it. I like the OBSE mod compatibility there.
Maybe the two will work together, giving more options.

Too bad. It would be nice if you could be riding in a carriage and have a chance of being attacked with your armed escort(s) by bandits. This reminds me of the mod http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23296.

Maybe I will get to installing that.

I really enjoy the realism of this mod. The first time I ran into a batch of bandits on the road, they opened a huge can of whoop*** and beatdowns on me. Combined with Duke Patricks Combat Archery, this mod makes traveling the roadways much more exciting and realistic!

(I'm also using Tamriel Travelers and Crowded Roads, and it's rather frightening to see guards and "hero" travelers get the smackdown from bandits now).

NOTE: im also useing adrenelene oblivion which makes mobs spawn like 10x more in quantity.

They do. As it says in Arthmoor's readme: "As long as you're willing to overlook there being more than one land based transport provider in each location, we should compliment each other nicely."

Interesting...but...looking at the comments there it looks like it could use some work:

1. expensive
2. graphics of horse attached to cart missing
3. no driver AI could get you stuck at a gate
4. It seems abandoned with no author comments

Seems nice if it could be smoothed out by a new modder.
