Absolute beginner question

I've decided to start learning about modding and started with the Wiki tutorial. I downloaded Blender and the other toolbox apps it calls for, but when installing Blender, it said that it was unable to find Python, which I had already installed some time ago for Wrye Bash. So, since Blender couldn't find it, I decided to follow the embedded link to the Python site, download the version Blender was calling for, and install it anew. The problem is that when I then unzipped Python and sought to install it, the Read Me file might as well have been written in Cyrodillic for all the good it did me as it talked about things such as "building" Python etc. So if someone would please give me some basic guidance as to how to get Python to install so Blender will recognize it, I would be most grateful indeed.

It sounds like you downloaded zip version of python. There is also .msi version, which should install the application automatically. Here is the link: http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.4/

There is a definite order of install. Pull up the readme again and follow the order they set out. I can't remember what is said and my gaming computer is at home. I had the same issues, I uninstalled everything and started over following their instruction to the last letter and it worked. Keep trying. Also for a basic tutorial to get you started feeling like your doing something look at these tutorials.

Sickleyield does a great job explaining Blender.

Thank you both for the help. The problem was exactly as you said, Hupukki: when I downloaded the .msi version it installed without problem as did Blender. Elora, I had already found the tutorials and in fact that's what led me to Blender and Python in the first place. Now to start trying to do something with them.
