I have been having a lot of fun doing this since I got a silenced rifle called the Ratslayer (unique varmint rifle). It is a weak gun without critical hits but it is almost overpowered with sneak criticals. I was never much of a sniper in FO3 but it seems much more fun and effective now in NV.

Once I got a dual modded scope and +damage laser rifle I found that sniping was almost always the superior tactical option. I've sniped everything from Cazidor to legion from east to west and north to south.

I just recently got a silencer for my varmit rifle on my second play through. To help raise my skill level up and level up I desided to go gecko hunting near good springs. It was a fun little rifle and I was slowly moving up on them using cover till I moved atop a high position and sniped them at long distance with the bolt action varmit rifle.

I used to do stuff like this even in FO3 but it was alittle harder since the sniper rifle zoomed in too close for some of the closer shots but the hunting rifle just didnt feel right.

Im waiting to save up some more caps to get a scope for the 9mm pistol and hopefully pick up the extended mag for the varmit rifle.

Wait till you are popping off deathclaw heads with the old FO3 .308 sniper rifle....that now can now be modded with a silencer. :ninja:

It took me ages to find a sniper rifle, which is my weapon of choice. Once I found one I was very pleased with it!

Fortunately, one of the fundamental changes with FONV is that combat is just as effective without VATS as it is with it. You needed mods to do that in FO3. Even so, sniping is a fun way to go.

I was using a scoped laser rifle for awhile, but switched to a Gauss Rifle. It doesn't have the ammo options my anti-material or sniper rifles do, but I get free ammo for it from a questline I did. I don't ever have to worry about ammo which is handy if you're working on building up the damage boost perks.
