shout out for fallout new vegas......

Post » Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:58 pm

alot of people who play oblivion where not entirely impressed with fallout 3. im here to say that many of those issues have been addressed and frankly aside from the ginormous technical issues which hopefully will be sorted out soon, new vegas has waaaaay more to do than FO3 did and even surpasses oblivion. tons of quests, and i mean tons of them. the game is brutally hard and the companions are better now. if FO3 left a bad taste in your mouth then definitely try this game out after a month or so. oh and if you have nvidia card DONT update to the newest drivers, after i did i started crashing every 10 minutes so im reverting to my old ass 186 driver from 2004. :)

there could also be the case that many ppl who enjoy TES enjoy more the 'medieval' / fantasy setting instead of the fictional one, yesn't?

My bro loves both games, while I have a very specific taste for few games (whcih does not mean that one is good the other bad).

This says it all for me. I can't stomach the ugly, off-putting, post-apocalyptic, barren wasteland setting of the game. Plus, I don't like games with guns either.

Precisely. Although I haven't looked into Fallout that much, some people prefer to hack rather than shoot.

there is that but when FO3 came out there were alot of comparison threads between them and while some people simply prefer the swords and magic theme a big complaint was that FO3 was just way to short and didnt have as much to do. there were alot of things that were hidden so that was one issue since some of it had to be stumbled on which was different than oblivions constant hand holding. i myself prefer the SCIENCE! settings over the elves and goblins but i enjoyed oblivion (heavily modded) as well and i loved morrowind. this was mostly to let people know that aside from the tech stuff new vegas is overwhelming and almost obscene in scope. im in hour 20 or so and just got to vegas a few hours back and have only done a few quests in there. i still have half the map to explore and some areas i walked though but havent even looked at yet so technically i still have around 75% of the map to explore yet.

i hope that for the next TES game or Fallout 4 that bethesda focuses purely on a new engine which is sorely needed cause the current iteration of gamebryo is very ugly looking and unoptimized. hopefully obsidian has the reigns on actual game design cause they blew my admittedly low expectations out of the water. i partnering of these giants could be phenomal.

So...err...Why are you here? New Vegas is a game set in an off-putting, ugly, barren, post-apocalyptic wasteland full of guns.

I love fantasy settings more than post-apocalyptic ones and I was skeptical of Fallout 3 at first as I've never even played a game with guns and first-person before (and still haven't other than Fallout 3 and New Vegas), however, since Bethesda made it and it was being called "Oblivion with guns", I had to try Fallout 3. I loved it. The first two, being somewhat similar to Baldur's Gate with guns, also caught my attention. Now, I'm here and loving New Vegas, so far.

im also in the fantasy > sci fi camp.

FNV will be fun for 2 months like F3 was..

but TESV will be a 2 year affair when it finally comes out.

Where did I say I wanted a non-violent game?

thats one of the things i like about new vegas over FO3.......its actually a challenge. i recently got power armor and deathclaws are still very dangerous and if i dont have boone with me cazadores kill me all the time. i love it. in FO3 the supposedly dangerous deathclaws were a complete pushover.

i dont mind fantasy setting per se as i love D&D but the TES universe seems more geared towards kids. cats and lizards and a stupid magic system that makes other skills like lockpicking and potion making utterly useless. why bother with a single lockpicking skill when i can increase alteration and not only get the ability to pick locks but tons of other stuff as well. why bother with sneak when you can chameleon or cloak yourself. magic is just too over balanced and way out of whack. at least in morrowind you had to put your weapons away to use a spell, in oblivion you just casually wave you hand without any thought and TA-DA you have a fireball.

EDIT: ??? split sec ago this was in O thread, now its been teleported to FO3NV...

And here I was thinking after almost 5 years of Morrowind and Oblivion, maybe I should finally give FO3 a try...
I don't suppose there's a demo version of FO3 available online somewhere so as to "try before I buy"?

skip F03. new vegas has way more to do. although im wishing i had waited a bit for the first couple of patches. i got my game working fine now but it took more tweaking and replacing a dll file etc. stuff you shouldnt have to do to run a game one a powerful system like mine. wait about a month or two and then try it out and i guarantee you wont be let down.
