Is it any good?

As the title says, is it any good?

I don't own the game yet as I would like some real opinions from real people before handing over my hard earned cash. I've wasted a bit of money this year on so called big titles that were just a huge let down and basically a big rip off (2K games anyone?), and that won't be happening again.

I haven't really seen a single topic stating that this game is awesome, which surprises me, but there has been a fair amount of negative feedback so I thought I would start a new topic where people can say if it's worth getting or not.

Is it worth £30?

What are the pros and cons of the game?

How does it compare to the brilliant Fall out 3?

How well is it optimized for pc?

Will my specs run it ok?

I’m running fine on a 2.5 year old pc with an equally old ATI card.

I absolutely love the game.

For me, this game feels like Fallout in a way that FO3 never did. It also “plays” using classic Fallout rules… perks every two levels, damage threshold, different ammo types for different jobs, nonleveling enemies, and a lot more moral gray matter too!

For me the game is more challenging and more fun than FO3. Your mileage may vary.

If you’re a fan of the classic games, I cannot imagine you wouldn’t like this game—there’s lots and lots of references to lore from the old games.

If you’re more casual, or all you know about Fallout is what you’ve experienced in FO3, well, you might like it or you might not.

As I’ve posted elsewhere, if these were movies, FO3 would be a generic Disney movie and FONV would be Sam Peckinpah’s Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia .

It seems that you have about the same specs as me, and it runs good on my computer. If you played FO3 and liked it, then don`t worry you`ll like NV as well:) Considering the PC version costs about 40£ in Norway, i`d definetely say it`s worth 30£!!

Well I have just bought the game for pc and I can't believe nobody bothered to tell me what a poorly optimised piece of crap this is. I'm just staggered that yet again I have been ripped off by a gaming company who release things that quite clearly don't run properly. No doubt it's optimised just fine for the consoles.

I did recommended settings and apparently I can run it on high settings, but wait, it chugs like an old steam engine, so I set it to medium settings and guess what, my fps is even lower than on high settings. I'm sick to death of being ripped off on unfinished, poorly optimised, buggy pc ports. Why would they release it on pc if it quite clearly doesn't work properly?

Yet again, another two fingers stuck up too the pc community. That's me done with ever buying another pc game. You try and do the right thing and give company's a chance and what do you get? I'll tell you what you get, you get shafted, and then these company's have the audacity to complain about piracy when what they need to be doing is taking a long hard look at themselves and how they shaft people left right and center.

Bump bump bump BUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP

I want my money back the game is unplayable for me. No matter what I do with the graphics, it makes no difference to the FPS.

I have a one year old son and a wife to take care of, my wife bought me this game today for an early xmass present, we don't have much money at the moment and this was a big deal to buy and this is what I get? an unplayable piece of crap?!?! To put it mildly, I'm furious and sick of this crap. I can no longer get a refund so I'm stuck with a game I cant play properly. i want a refund, who can I speak too to get a refund? surely it's illgeal to release a game that doesn't work properly?

Happy xmass bethesda, have a good one spending peoples hard earned cash.

Sounds like you shouldn't be buying a game at this time then. It was your choice to make the purchase.

If your computer passes the rec. requirements then the game should play fine. May want to update your drivers or something.

You need http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778. Game is completely unplayable without it but runs smooth as can be with it.

We could afford one game and this is the game that was chosen, this game is broken in pc format and this is the game I am left with. My family is well looked after which is exactly why only one game was bought so it was a tough decision between a few games, sadly I made a very bad choice. Don't judge me as you don't know me and maybe you could try understanding my perfectly legitimate anger at being scammed.

It's not my drivers.

Would just like to say thanks for those that helped out, that fix worked a treat and apology's for my nerd rage.

I am puzzled by this. The way you said nobody bothered to tell you something almost indicates you only read your own post only. Haven't you read the other hundreds of posts that people are having problems with the game? A little bit of research and you would have seen many people are having issues with New Vegas. Did you not check to see the New Vegas PC troubleshooting sections? I am sorry, here, you have no one to blame here but yourself. You have had numours places to be reading this, I am surprised that you are shocked about this. These posts came up on Day One releas only a few hours after release. So please do not blame anyone here.

Also for your 2K game you bought, what was it by chance? Civ V?

Good question... I like it personally. there are definitely things about New Vegas that I like better than in 3, but then again, there were things about 3 that I liked better than in New Vegas. Was it worth $60? I definitely have to say yes. I can't help with you pc question though... I'm a 360 guy myself. You could rent it before you buy it though, try it out before you shell out the big bucks. Good luck with it and hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Thing is, can you really rent PC games anymore? Espically when they have to be locked to an account. So I don't think that was an option for the OP.

Quite frankly, I can't think of one level this game excells on and far too many where it fails.
It sure ain't Fallout 3+, which was a massive disappointment. I am into my 4th day of playing this game and I am yet to "care".... and I did "care "about the Lone Wanderer. So much so that I prefered the Fallout world to reality!!! (LOL)
I know it has more of a Fallout 1 & 2 "feel", and knowledge of those ganes would help... (i.e "The Master")... but if you "came in at Fallout 3" like many did, I think you will be annoyed and pissed off.
I am not on an XBox or other console - I use PC only - so I don't have the problems many appear to be having with their equipment but I sure am getting the [censored] with the load-lag already. Example of overworked b/s: Why so many "gates" in Vegas, can I ask? It takes me (day 4, 11 saves) a full 5 minutes of real time just to cross the damned city and pick up the quest line.
Story lines are disjointed and unconnected. "Linear" is a word I am hearing a lot in association with FNV quests.
There's so many side quests that end in nada, zip, zilch. So many that I am having trouble remembering who gave me the quests and why.
I complete a quest and have this empty feeling....why did I bother? I'm at that stage with the entire game now....why bother? It gives me a headache and almost no pleasure or enjoyment. It's hard work getting into it and the reward is minimal to non-existent.
I don't believe the 'writers' behind the storylines really understoof the Fallout 3 phenomena and they have set the whole franchise back ten paces. That said, I really DO like the way characters are more developed and the karma/empathy/hate you have to build up, BUT.... it has to mean something in the long run or its just a [censored], yeah????

I feel really badly ripped off.
My other pet peeve....STEAM!!!! I want a stand alone CD, not to be forced into STEAM's arcane labrynth of b/s. THAT really annoys me. (I hate steam, in case you cant tell!)
Oh well.... I am going back and reload, start a new character, try to enjoy it one more time.... I must have missed something???????????

Thanks a lot! It improved my performance threefold. I wish I knew it earlier, would spare me many frustrating gun fights. Someone should put it in to separate post and make it sticky!
