I didn't mind not killing from horse, if anything else they added to the scenery and feel.

I think I could easily feel immersed in a world without horses, but I would certainly like to see them return.

Mounted combat I'll pass on. It's very tricky to pull off without being clunky (even Mount and Blade - a game that revolves around mounted combat - hasn't got it perfect in my opinion) and so not worth the effort. However, mount/dismount animations should be one hell of a lot more fluid and fast to aid in getting off the horse for combat. I also think that we should be able to store some gear on our horses' saddle bags (I believe that there was a mod that did this for Oblivion?), with slower horses being able to hold more gear but the amount of gear not affecting speed itself.

And therefor any other ridable creature could be in place and offer the same effect.

I agree with this point here. Additional mounts would help help make Skyrim feel more unique.

If horses are a must, then I'd rather see smaller, perhaps shaggy, ponies which are the only types of equine which can thrive in rugged, cold environments. Big war horses or sleek arab stallions are incongruous for the setting.

The point of posting that was to point out that that was not my argument. My argument is that a single animal is not going to add to immersion.

Imagine if Oblivion never had horses but, let's say, it had silt striders and a secondary version of fast travel in the Morrowind style. If anyone found themselves thinking "you know, the lack of horses in this area is really reminding me that I'm playing a video game" then they are insane. I'm starting to think people don't know what "immersion" means anymore and they're mistaking it for a "similar to the real world" concept or something.

lol, im surprised youre trying to reason with someone who produced this 'gem' of an argument

Yeah just take away all animals in the game. The level of immersion will absolutely stay the same.

I wouldn't mind things like the horse-riding guardsmen patrolling the roads in Oblivion. They're fine as a background detail.

However, I've got no particular desire to own, ride, or fight from one of those things.

Let's face it: the horses in Oblivion were less than impressive. The controls felt choppy. You couldn't attack from the horse. Shadowmere was invincible, and you could exploit his body into becoming a pack mule. Generally speaking, horses were handled in an uninteresting manner. As it stands-for those of you who don't know-horses are unconfirmed, and may not make it into Skyrim.

The question that Bethesda is facing, and one that I'm particularly interested in, is: How can horses be presented in a meaningful, and intelligent way in Skyrim?
Should Horses be left out of Skyrim?

I personally think that horses would be a good addition to Skyrim, but definitely not if they will be used the same as Oblivion.

How should Bethesda handle horses, what changes (if any) should be made if Horses are to be implemented into Skyrim?

I say do it right or don't do it at all.

Yeah the controls on the horse were very ehhh im gonna say blocky , that feels like an accurate description , if they moved smoother then it would be great and as for the poll I think that the storage kept on the saddle of your horse is a great idea and I think horseback combat is not ready , it would only end up dissapointing people and not being used , thats not a lack of faith in bethesda :tes: but the only game ive played that successfully did horseback combat was zelda and even that wasnt flawless

And definitley "your" horse should have some marking on it or a name because i have stolen so many horses in oblivion thinking it was mine and paying a fine or having to be a fugitive for a simple misunderstanding :meh:
