What a dissapointing letdown.

Well, I like many others, have been waiting for FONV to come out now for a long time, with great anticipation. Unfortunately it is too bug ridden to really enjoy. Game publishers need to realize that releasing a game too soon with a plethora of bugs is a sure fire way to alienate your fan base. I LOVED FO3. It looked like Washington D.C. (I live near it), the Capital was .... haunting, the D.C. ruins were crawling with bad guys and things to do, but New Vegas? New Vegas is a sprawling wasteland of just that; waste, with little or nothing to do or shoot at. Then when I finally get access to the fabled "strip", I get rewarded with a tiny area with a few casino's and very little content. I literally said to myself, "this is it?". There should have been sprawling buildings with neon everywhere, and lots of characters. There is not. There are a few people spotted around here and there, and then when you go inside a casino, there are a handful of people there. Where are the people? Wheres the neon??!! In short, where is Vegas??! What a letdown.

Don't even get me started on the bugs. From locking up my xbox continually, to dogs, brahmin, and radscorpions walking around on their HEADS, to quest markers being in the wrong place, it's an excercise in frustration. Twice now I have lost an hours worth of gameplay due to bugs. Have to reload an earlier save. Joy.

Perception....detects enemies from way to far away....VATS? Can't target enemies far enough away?! wtf. If I can see it, I should be able to VATS it. Don't like VATS? Don't use it. But that is what made FO3 enjoyable for me and many others I'm sure, but in NV I have to get in close range for any kind of VATS fun. Lame. It's not a shooter. Don't try to make it one.

I wanted to love this game, and I sure hope they patch this monstrosity soon, but the point is, it should not have gotten to this point. Playtest the friggin game, and fix the game breaking bugs before it goes to market huh?

Oh yea, there was the wonderful bug of getting locked out of NV after I had stored all my stuff there. Was happily traveling to and from there for days, then just suddenly get locked out like I'm a new player again. Had to kill a 'bot to get a key for the gate. Joy.

You'd have thought they could have at least fixed the bugs leftover from FO3 on this one. But.....FAIL.

Obsidian, you disappointed the hell out of me. You slapped some new paint on a Rembrandt, and called it New Vegas. If I were you I'd seriously consider FREE DLC (with meat and potatoes, not a new suit of armor or something stupid) to make up for your transgressions!

Ok, not sure what you are rambling on about, I stopped reading after the part of "bug riddled". Not everyone here is expericing bugs, and I know I sure as hell am not. After my automatic download for FO New Vegas when I restarted today Beagle wasnt up around the cealing on my second play through which was the only bug I ran into to date. Now there is that annoying glitch where some times after a quick reload when fighting you cant open up your pip boy and the right zoom button wont work nor you can shoot. I notice if you stand still in this part and move your view around your character will continue to move around some.

I disagree with most of what you have just said, however, the Strip, while still being one of my favorite areas in the game, was pretty disappointing to me. It's not that large and there really isn't much to do there, sadly. It doesn't really feel like the Strip, and I've been to the Strip. However, I believe the game is excellent. I only wish the Strip was at least 2 or 3 times as large as it currently is.

I thought all letdowns were disappointing. Are there "exciting' letdowns, "exhilarating" letdowns, "happy" letdowns, or maybe even "joyful" letdowns?

What about physical letdowns, as in "DON'T LET ME DOWN WHEN I'M DANGLING OVER THIS BOILING PIT OF LAVA!!!!!" ? :P

From my exploration of the area, the strip is big its just that most of the strip just doesnt exsist anymore. A big chunk of vegas is in ruins and is in control of thugs/gangs while one half of the strip is composed of freeside. That long median divided road you walk down through free side into vegas, that on freeside to the "vegas strip" gate is technically all the strip. At one time Vegas wasnt casinos up and down the whole strip like it is today. I even think some of the devs stated that they went with more of a 1950`s vegas lay out than a modern and I have to say from photos ive seen it looks and feels alot like Vegas of the 50`s instead of the family friendly Vegas of today.

True, true. Or maybe "elevator letdowns", or "escalator letdowns."

I feel that the range on VATS is lacking as well. I noticed in your post that you have an x-box version of the game. Have they ever allowed for user build module loading on the x-box? If so, I know that FO3 had a downloadable mod over at the nexus that would greatly enhance the targetting range for VATS. A possibility in any case if it's ever developed for FONV (and with it's focus on long distance combat, I'd be surprised if it wasn't).

I have to agree, I have noticed some bad problems with VATS and the weapons. I have the 10mm SMG, yes it is supposed to be short range but even fully repaired. I literally have to be 2 feet from an enemies nose to get a decent precentage in VATS and the spread is still just as crappy as if the gun was almost broke.

What about how the Cazadora(?) appears? those things move so fast that when they appear on your screen, it is right in front of your face.

I disagree "there isn't much to do with Strip". One quest each building seems good enough for me, as Cass make my head spilling for what to do.

Vats has many issues including some left over from fo3 which is dissapoiting though i can't say im surprised. Hoping the modding community will now fix THEIR mistakes *sigh*. On a happier note I am still enjoying the game, and so far it's not been that buggy for me :D.

Believe me, the last thing I wanted to do was come to the forums to complain. I love Fallout. I will play this game. Sure it's fun; its Fallout! But game companies should not release stuff when it's not ready. FONV was not ready.

I wouldn't have even made a post if it were not for all the bugs. I'll make sure to send kudos if and when these issues get fixed. But there have been way too many buzzkill moments.

Little things like seeing children that were pulled directly out of Little Lamplight for use in Freeside get to me too. Really? You couldn't have made ....new children? lol

I was frustrated when I made this thread. I'm sure until this thing gets patched I will continue to get frustrated.

FREE DLC!

Lol, i agree with the part about the strip.. even with the ruins part New vegas should be about 2-3 times bigger, and for the bugs part i havent really encountered any except one... a gamebreaking one that made me restart my stroy when i was past 20hours in, but im glad it was only one bug. AND one last thing... fix VATS lol. in FO3 VATS was overpowered i understand so you guys nerfed it a bit, but u over nerfed it. i literally need to be in someones face just to have a 50% chance to hit them. and i had most of the VATS perks for better accuracy lol

Wow, 20 hours into a game and you had to restart? That would have been the final straw for me. Looks like you agree with most of the issues I have. There are some folks I guess who aren't experiencing near as many bugs. Good for them, but it's certainly not the case on the 360 version.

They need to fix VATS. But even before that, I would like to see the bugs get mashed.

hmm have not encountered any bugs,
only the V.A.T.S system not picking up properly when it should. But other than that nope notta thing. I do not find it bug riddled, though some people have encountered many problems, even with FO3 no probs there (until DLC came)!

I have encountered a little instability but nothing which I would call a show stopper. Just a major nuisance. I play on 1 of 2 extreme gaming PCs (dual 5970s etc) I love the game. I got what I expected and what I paid for., Always worries the hell out of me when I see something is also being released on the xbox as I fully expected it to be made more console friendly (ie dumbed down) but it hasnt. I like the game play just fine.

I do have one comment though. The textures are really crap. I looks forward to some player mods by the pc modding community to give us better in game textures. Apart from that this was another good Bethesda game so far. I just hope it is as open and non linear as their other major hits (Like my all time favourite-Oblivion which I am still modding and using today).

Not sure why the previous posters find the game disappointing sure the memory issues are really not acceptable but the game is so new I am assuming they will be worked out.
