Everyone always frames this question as MMO vs Single Player. I've never heard about a 'small multiplayer' option. You know, games like the old Baldur's Gate Series, NWN, etc, had multiplayer where you could host your own 'server', have 3 or 4, maybe up to 7 of your friends join you, and have small-group multiplayer. I would like to see small-group multiplayer along with single player, in that tradition.
From a game-mechanics perspective, they'd have to re-tool how the game players, perhaps - TES games have, historically, absolutely depended upon the player pausing gameplay in the middle of a battle to, e.g. switch weapons, recharge an enchanted item, drink a potion, select a spell, etc.
I've always thought TES would be a great setting for 2 or 3 of my friends to join me. I don't want *Massively Multiplayer* Elder Scrolls - but, if other people do wan't an MMO Elder Scrolls, why *shouldn't* Zenimax publish it? The only reason I wouldn't want to see an MMO version of TES is if it caused the main series to be discontinued (or suffer from insufficient dev/artistic resources because all the talent gets shifted over to the MMO division).
