Multiple Monitor Support

Post » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:05 am

Hey Bethesda,

I really, really REALLY hope this game has Multiple Monitor Support. I built a new system (parts all arrive tomorrow) just to make sure this game plays on MAX everything at the highest possible settings. I will be VERY upset if the games doesn't have NATIVE Multiple Monitor resolution support... Kinda still upset about Brink... Hopefully that error will be corrected... Honestly, if games are made without this type of support, what's the point in making games? Cheaply made software does not have triple monitor support... *cough* MINECRAFT DOES *cough* So... I really hope Skyrim does... and not like... hast-fully thrown together Fallout New Vegas support.. I mean...made specifically for it support... It's not that hard to do... and we "the truly nerdy" have tossed all kinds of money into systems that are on the bleeding edge of technology... please... don't let us down.

Wow.

Because lots of games don't have support for the very few people with multiple monitors, they shouldn't make games?
And your a giant plonker if you bought the rig in your sig just to play skyrim. I mean, ONE GTX 580 would tear skyrim apart, 3 is just stupid and a waste of money...
this thread made me laugh.

The best part about that rig is that it has an H70 instead of a custom loop... I mean a high end air cooler will cool a cpu better than the H70.

Uhh... Does having lived my entire life unaware that such a thing even existed revoke my nerd licence?

I have two monitors, not exactly the most expensive option in the world, I just happen to have a spare 19" that work gave me, so it's in my desktop rig, or sometimes in my laptop.

However I'm not sure why you would have two. Would it be like the DS, one monitor for your inventory etc? In which case how would you switch to it? Seems pretty pointless to me. Would you have them side by side for extra peripheral vision? If so you would need two identical monitors with very thin surrounds, that's quite specialist and probably not worth the extra work.

Maybe I just don't see what you're aiming for.

He's talking about triple monitor support, not dual:

So what would you need for that? Multi graphics cards? Specifi cmonitors?

Depends on the game. Most recent games require a nice SLI setup for that sort of resolution to run at any acceptable framerate. I mean there's basically no reason to get tri or quad sli/xfire unless you're gaming at a resolution like 2560x1600 (one 30" monitor) or 5760x1200 (three 1920x1200 monitors). Any monitors should work, but you'll have http://heroinc.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/kidwith3monitors.jpg in the way. At least they aren't right in the middle of the screen splitting apart the crosshair.

Personally I'm not interested in multiple monitor setups until the manufacturers start releasing some affordable ultra-thin bezel monitors for consumers. I'd rather splurge on a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260028&cm_re=ultrasharp-_-24-260-028-_-Product if I'm going with tri/quad SLI. Three monitors would be cool for Skyrim to get an ultra wide FOV for the mountain ranges, but it's best in games like online FPS where that extra horizontal real estate can give you a real advantage.

I think the kid has just gone on newegg and put the most expensive thing of each part in his sig :D

....because that's an incredibly niche market, with virtually no impact on your bottom line?

If those parts are coming tomorrow, how did you oc your CPU? Plus I highly doubt 3 580s could max out skyrim, it's built to run on a 360. Your way underpowered for that. Also as some others have said you can buy air coolers that are better than that corsair cooler you bought. 16gb might not be enough ram either...... Back to the drawing board!

Probably watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lajZi-JAFXA and tried to see how much he could add onto it.

Um, I.. beg your pardon? You think the xbox 360 graphics chip is more powerful than three dedicated cards which are 5 (or so) generations more advanced than it?

edit: and yes, you can buy what are called 'overclocked' graphics cards off the shelf these days, it depends on who manufactured the card and if they decided to up the frequency on the core and shader clocks after they got the chips from nVidia or ATI.

Sarcasm detector needs calibration.

And the OC he was talking about was the processor, not graphics card. The TC said he won't get the parts for his new build until tomorrow, yet the CPU is already overclocked to 5.2ghz.

Tylerryan's post did not give indication either way of sarcasm or not (as can be common in forum posts), hence my first line having a question mark on it. It does not mean I'm a sarcasm deficient Brit. It would mean I'd get deported.
Ah, and fair dos about the CPU.
edit: I'm only wasting time, making these pointless posts, before a meeting. I think this thread is done with. I still don't see why some folks are rushing to get a new rig now when the game won't be out until at least November. The same hardware would be cheaper closer to the release date.

LOL i7 at 5,2 Ghz. his CPU will burn in 2 hours of runing no matter how good his cooling is

Yes, I was being sarcastic. I tend to forget their are people who truly would think that.

I have one gtx570, and there is no doubt in my mind it will run Skyrim max everything. 3 580s is overboard, even if you run 3 monitors for skyrim.
