Wicca Dio: "Every gaming franchise has noobs, i was one once too! as were you. so for bethesda to do what any company would, make the player base bigger, i think theyre in the right. Why would they make a game impossible to beat only for you and make everyone else hate it only because you wanted things to be harder? I dont want that, Ive played beth games since Morrowind (i was like 11 or so then, maybe younger) and default difficulty then was moderate, wasnt easy, but wasnt impossible. And the fact that you expected everyone to say it was too easy, versus too hard, kinda tells us how you play. If one out of 100 people say its too easy, then obviously you mistakenly slid your difficulty bar down to impossibly easy especially if you say how you kill a guard set the controller down and leave, come back and 1/4 of your health is gone. Sounds like Noobishly Easy Syndrom to me (NES). Sure it could be a little bit harder initially, but hey thats what the difficulty slider is for.
-Never once used a mod in TES games. never will."
BETHESDA SHOULD MAKE THE DEFAULT DIFFICULTY HAVE AT LEAST SOME TYPE OF CHALLENGE IN THE COMBAT. THE NOOBS ARE THE ONES WHO CAN USE THE DIFFICULTY SLIDER IF IT'S TOO HARD. BUT DON'T PUNISH ME FOR HAVING SKILLS BY MAKING ME FIGHT MEAT SHIELDS, THAT IS ALMOST AS BORING AS ONE-HITTING EVERYTHING.

First of all, if you've never even used mods, you don't even know what Oblivion is truly capable of. I do. Mods have enriched the game experience for a lot of people. If they didn't nobody would make them or download them. Why would Bethesda give us great mod tools like the GECK if they didnt plan for us to use it?
My personal disappointment stems from the fact that I wanted my first playthrough on Skyrim to be fun and challenging. I'm sure the latter will be true, but most of us will be forced to install mods for the former. I think on my first playthrough, I'm gonna just explore and mess around for a couple of months, and wait for some good mods to come out before I start a serious playthrough.
Why is this forum even here if the game isn't even out yet? For discussion and SPECULATION. My speculation is that the "vanilla" Skyrim experience is going to be sorely lacking in the challenge department, because only a small percentage of the areas will be deemed "hard for your character". It is true that I can't see the future. Skyrim COULD be as hard as Ninja Gaiden 2, I don't know. But when it takes a game studio 3-5 years to make each game, referencing their last 3 games (Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas, all were too easy IMO) should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.
- And stop trying to insult me by saying I put the slider all the way down, if I did, I wouldn't be on here almost every day complaining about the difficulty. I have NEVER put the slider below the default. If you had a hard time, it's your fault for building a garbage character. I thought part of the challenge of an RPG was in building a great character, and you would NOT be able to complete the game without doing so. Beth has made their last three games so that ANY character you build can make it through the game. I have even done a playthrough of Fallout 3 where I had an Intelligence of 1 and I put every single skill point into non-combat skills, and it was still easy by comparison to most other action/RPG's I have played such as Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age 1 & 2, Diablo 2, NWN, Baldur's Gate, the list goes on. If Bethesda can't challenge me, I personally won't be spending much time on their game. The sad part of that for me is that I really want to put hundreds of hours into Skyrim right away. But if I'm bored and unchallenged, it'll probably be more like a 50-hour MQ run and that's it until a lot of mods come out. That's when I'll start over and do a full playthrough in earnest.
