Will DW be necessary?

Post » Wed Apr 07, 2010 6:57 am

Since we have the ability to Dual Wield anything I am wondering if it will be a necessity. I know that 1h weapon + magic, or 1h weapon + shield, or 2h weapon, or 2 1h weapons, or even shield + magic will be useful, but what about just 1 1h weapon?

Will there be anything in the talents to make it possible to just use 1 axe or 1 dagger etc? What about just 1 spell?

I'm pretty sure we'll be capable of wielding just one 1-h weapon, but I am a little worried about whether or not we'll be able to block with a 1-h weapon all by itself...

I'm sure we'll be able to, wouldn't make much sense if we couldn't. Same for the block worry.

I don't see why you couldn't, but I don't see why you would. Unless you move faster with one weapon out versus two.

I know, right? It would be totally stupid if we couldn't block with one-handed weapons.
But I've been hearing dark rumours...

I suspect you would use only one 1-h weapon for role playing purposes primarily. My character in OB was supposed to be one who could talk his way out of any situation, so he only carried one shortsword with him and no other weaponry or armour.

You can't block with a one-handed weapon if you're wielding a spell, but otherwise you'll be able to. You can also wield one one-handed weapon with both hands if you like.

If you wield a weapon in just one hand, you will 2H wield it (unless it's a dagger) and you'll do more damage per hit. Dualwielding will also likely give penalties to attack speed of each weapon.

You, sir, have allayed my fears!
Is that from the new GI (mine isn't here yet, daggit), or do you have a source I can read? I hadn't heard about this.

I hope you can't block arrows effectively with nothing but a 1H weapon because...well just because lol

Dang I was going to play wielding sword/destruction. I don't see why that setup shouldn't be able to block though...

Because it requires two hands to block and one is occupied with a spell. It's for balance.

So does that mean you need to wield a 1hander in 2 hands to block? I'm not sure how "balanced" it is to not be able to block any attacks...
If it is like that it will definitely be one of the first things I get modded.
