Securon preventing instalation of SI

Post » Thu Apr 08, 2010 4:56 am

... I can't find it and I'm a sad sad protochickie.

I have all CDs (not the D2D or Steam versions) & I just did a clean format and was reinstalling MW, FO3 and Oblivion and I did OB, KotN and had no problems until I got to SI where I got the following Error:

A required module cannot be activated
This program cannot be activated (5019).

Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=5019 for further, more detailed information.

I've never seen this before & the link won't work for me for the popup. I made it red because it's mean. (acrually since it let me copy& paste) I went there but I'm not sure if the download is malware or clean. I'm scared. Is it safe?

Help, anyone?

Thanks in advance.

 I wub oo's all! Here is cake: :cake:

Edut: I cnat spell.

Hey, Archie! :wavey:

McAfee says okey-dokey to the page.

Details:
If the application won't start although you did not use the loader program 'Curerom', please send a SecuROM? anolysis file to support@securom.com (see Support Info section on how to prepare and send an anolysis file).

Where did you pick up SecuRom from? This is a CP coding for PC games IIRC.

Odd though. A reformat should have wiped this out, unless it came from an installation of another game that uses this.

If your on a network or connected to the internet, remove the PC in question from it. Just to make sure you're not receiving/transmitting, you can use command prompt to ping your router. It should return 0 packs.

Just shootin' from the hip here, Archie.

Securom is included on the SI disk -- Ob uses only the disk check portion of the program but it still installs the entire SECUROM program and all of its hidden files on your system !! Acouple options would be :

1.) remove or uninstall the program that SECUROM has flagged as being on your system ( They keep a blacklist of programs that they deem used for Piracy and the installer will refuse to run if it finds any of them on your system !)

2.) Download the http://www.filehippo.com/download_universal_extractor/ and use it to extract the files from the installer and manually move them into your Data folder (IIRC you need to run UE twice to get to the files - once to extract the archives and then again on the DATA1 folder to extract the actual .esp and bsa files etc.)

Note : I've used FileHippo for the download before and the file is clean !

Do you mean a rootkit? I could have sworn that I read 2K does not do this. The function should only be a wrapper on the setup file, but honestly I'm not all that savvy with CPP.

In this case it would be, CureRom. Would the simplest fix be to just have this disabled? What about Nero or Roxio causing this?

Problem is even disabling it is not enough --- Securom will refuse to run the install if it finds blacklisted programs installed on the system (even if they are not in use just having them on the system will result in the install aborting !) so it would require uninstalling Curerom and it's registry entries from the system completely not just disabling it.
