Dart Guns in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Apr 11, 2010 7:36 am

Do you guys think that dart guns would fit the world of Skyrim? I could see them being in, especially for mainly hunter/thief/assassin characters. Now obviously they won't be like FO3 dart guns; maybe you can craft them from wood most likely? And the darts should have spell effects. I don't know, I think it's a good idea. They should definitley be considered as DLC, if not in the vanilla game.

If there are dart guns, I imagine the darts will have poison effects, not magic effects.

I don't mean dart guns where you use your hands and pull a trigger. I mean using your mouth to shoot the dart...unless that is what you mean as well.

You mean, like... Some sort of... Crossbow?
Nope.
EDIT: Oh, THAT kind of dart gun. Like a blow gun.
I'd rather have crossbows.

I'm thinking of the type where you blow them out of a tube.
And it kinda doesn't fit the setting. Usually, they are seen in jungles and rainforests.

So Blow Guns. Morrowind had darts, I don't see how it would be too far of a stretch. It's probably something we'd be more likely to see in Valenwood or somewhere more wild like that though. Can't see them fitting in too well in Skyrim.

Dart GUN vs BLOW dart. Very different. Once makes use of a trigger and launching mechanism. The other consists of a long tube you blow into.

Yes, but I can think of plenty other weapon types that Id put ahead of Blowguns in terms of weapon variety. The more the better.

I could see a Bosmer Druid using short ranged poisoned darts.

I could also see a Bosmer druid with a spear, though...

Just sayin', I think blow guns would be pretty low on the "cool weapons" priority list.
I could be wrong! Maybe they're way easier to implement than spears, so they'll just throw them in. But there really aren't that many character types that blow guns suit, especially in Skyrim (as opposed to Morrowind, where the swampy wasteland would have been well-suited to that sort of weapon).
Plus, wouldn't darts pretty much work the exact same way as archery in Oblivion, as in it would take fifty darts to the head to take down more powerful enemies? I was pretty excited to find out that that wouldn't be the case any more.

Perhaps some sort of small one-handed crossbow? Short range and for silent take downs only? Perhaps if the ammo was rare enough.

I think a blow gun would fit in fine. They would be particularly useful when RPing assassins, hunters, rangers, or survivalists.

I can really see something like this but only have like one of them and have it be a Dark Brotherhood quest reward.

Personally, I tend to associate blow darts more with your aboriginals, like your South American or New Guinea tribes. I don't think there's any groups like that in Skyrim.

They doesn't seem to fit in Skyrim. In Valenwood / Elsweyr / Black Marsh, maybe, but Skyrim no.

I think a small hand crossbow would have the same effect and be more lore friendly. Very highly doubt we'll get something like this though.

Already confirmed that there will only be bows. And if they do implement a new ranged weapon I'd rather that they put in a "real" weapon like the crossbow instead.
