Possible Armour/Clothing layering confirmed?

If you look at the Riverwood screenshot you'll see a guard/Man of arms next to the dog to the right of the character
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/riverwood/
He's wearing what looks like a red tunic of sorts underneath something along the lines of plate armor
along with Gauntlets but no mail on his arms. Do you think this is a set piece maybe for a town guard tunic
and all? Or Is it possible layering?

If its a set piece that would be strange, as it seems too colorful for a guard if it is even a guard. On a side note has anyone seen the guy under the blacksmith sign, it looks like hes wearing a animal fur.

Indeed,it looks as if he is. I don't see that being a set piece of armor so Im crossing my fingers that
layering is confirmed. As for enchanting every single garb I don't know how that would work.

If armor layering is not released, we always got mods. And when (if) that mod comes out, I'm probably not downloading it. And I bet you console players are thinking "oooooh moodz i cant dwnl0ad those im on xbox." Well, you better hope they find a way for mods on consoles. And I bet they will.

You can look at images and make guesses, but when it comes right down to it... No, it's not confirmed. It's nothing more than a guess.

Well that's a given, theres no real significant need to discuss things confirmed. Speculation is
half the fun IMO

Right now, there's no way to tell whether the red clothing is part of the armor piece or not.

No,but it would seem a bit odd to have a garment under the plate as a set piece.
the other screens show that there either plate with mesh underneath like the elven armor
or nothing at all like the Khajiits armor. To me it seems possible.

It looks like the Morrowind style imperial Templar uniform. that's just how it's supposed to be worn.

"oooooh moodz i cant dwnl0ad those im on xbox."

Sadly, many don't even know this. I don't know how many times I've seen the question "How do I dwnload this Mod Im on the xbox"
I hope armor/Cloth layering is included.

I've been convinced since the Game Informer came out in Feb or w/e. There's that one armor piece, the metal ring with leather suspenders, that they've shown in conjunction with several armors and no armor at all. They've also shown us about 5 or 6 pics of guys with ONE pauldron. And while this could be just a particular armor set (Oblivion steel had one pauldron different from the other, but it was one piece) I think the sheer % of pictures with only one is like Beth saying "SEE guys?"

It hasn't been confirmed, but my guess is because they want to brag about HOW customizable it is, and won't say "Yes" when they want to say "YEAH BABY." Wear a shirt, then a harness, then chainmail, then plate, then a tabard, then a robe.

Okay, maybe not THAT intense, but I would venture to say even more than Morrowind.

*Edit: How do you get more complex, you ask? Well, in Morrowind, even tho you could layer shirt, armor, robe, they all had a set "level" 1, 2, and 3, respectively, with shirt under armor under robe, always. I imagine now the level will simply be based on order of being equipped, with some obvious limitations such as no shirts over plate, although maybe over mail, etc.

This!

Oblivion's iron armor had some sort of orange cloth under it.

Morrowinds Indoril armor also had blue cloth layering.

None the less, i asked how armor will be handled in Skyrim for the fan interview. I was the first person to post a question..ever so i'm sure this will be answered soon enough. :hehe:

I hope at the very least I can wear a robe over my armor, that would satisfy me. Seeing how apparently we can't block with a 1-handed weapon+spell I want something to protect myself while looking stylish in my mage robes lol.

Indeed, it isn't confirmed unless Bethesda tells us it's in, the only way a screenshot could really be taken as confirmation of it is if it showed the inventory screen, displaying the players' equipped armor and clothing, and it clearly showed that both a piece of clothing and a piece of armor that cover the same body part are equipped at the same time, but that would be essentially the same as Bethesda telling us it's in. In any case, what I'm seeing in this picture looks like it's more likely just the design of the armor to me, Oblivion had some armors that incorporate parts of what looks to be cloth to, so it would not be surprising if this is also true in Skyrim.

Whether this is in or out, I can't say at this time, however, we should not take pictures of armored characters as confirmation that it is in just because you see a bit of cloth in the picture.

They HAVE told us that a certain number of extra weapons will appear on our character, not just the one we have immediately equipped. I imagine the same system would apply to clothes. Also, I love how people are squinting at the guard in the background, and ignoring the dude who's the focus of the shot.

His shirt certainly looks like part of the armor...but it's got no pauldrons. So either they made one armor with no pauldrons, one with one, and one with both...or they mayde armor and separate pauldrons. I realize we are talking about clothes under/over armor, but that also is part of the same system.

That cuirass looks a bit like the one the khajiit was wearing. Maybe this is steel and the khajiit had iron? or it could be a modified version of it.

That's how some armors worked in Oblivion.

It is an interesting outfit, but as far as layered clothing goes, there is much stronger evidence on the Dovahkiin himself. Case in point:

Harness (leather cuirass?) with nothing underneath:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/draugr-swarm/

Harness with some sort of scale armour underneath:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/spider-hero/

Same harness on enemy, but with a shirt underneath:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/stealth-kill/

These screenshots make it almost certain, unless there are just a TON of variations on each armour type. Which, hey, would also be cool. So whatever, I trust Bethesda.

EDIT: The Khajit also has an interesting hint towards layered clothing in that he seems to be naked under a pretty minimal cuirass. Surely no male soldier that wasn't of a Beast race would walk around in an iron bra, right? Just speculation really.

And I think the best thing about the screenshot the OP posted is the scabbard the Dovahkiin's sword is in. I always wanted proper scabbards in Oblivion!

If you look at spider hero and then draugr hero or draugr swarm, you can see that harness over that piece of armor. This proves apparel can be layered, or at least combined in some ways.

That would be nice. It would be good to be able to put a cuirass over a cloak.
