I'm going indepenent, but I also want a truce between the Brotherhood and the NCR. Do I have to do the For the Republic
quest, or does the mention of a truce in the end video happen anyway when pushing the NCR out of the area? Thanks!

You can do the truce by following the NCR faction quest until the Brotherhood part. Make sure that McNamara is still elder and you can make the truce and then do the Wild Card quest
