Quick question - I can't switch ammo types on my varmit rifle. Having no problems switching ammo on 357 magnum. What am I overlooking?

I use different ammo with my varmint rifle all the time. I press up on the dpad of my xbox 360 wired controller for pc and it always works. What system are you using? You do have different 5.56 rounds right?

Yes I have different 5.56 rounds. I switched from regular to hollowpoint before a battle. After the battle and before exploring the surrounding countryside I'm trying to swith back to regular rounds.
Like I said, I'm having no trouble switching rounds with the 357 mag.

One possibility - The condition of my varmit rifle is to low?

I never let my weapons degrade too low but if you can fire and reload the gun then it doesn't make sense to not be able to swap ammo. Hmmm... No clue then. Sorry I can't be of more help.
