The New Daedra look

Post » Tue May 11, 2010 1:47 am

I can't say I'm the greatest fan of Daedra (I prefer human enemies) so no I am not especially excited about it however that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to get an idea of what they will look like.

For my part, I eagerly await any images of and information on The Daedra. They are among the most distinguishing and fascinating beings in the Elder Scrolls cosmology, and I hope they are both very interactive in their incarnations in this game (at least the social, highly intelligent races like The Dremora, The Aureal, the Xivilai and THe Mazan), that more of them are summonable, and that the summons can be interacted with. Long term summons like those in the company of Conjourers in Oblivion would be very welcome. I am most interested in seeing the return of the social Daedra which I mentioned, and any new social Daedra types not yet encountered. Sanguine's for the win. Lol. I also hope for some additional Daedra lore. I know they will not be the focus of this game, and that is well and good, but I am eager to see as much of them as is offered, nonetheless.

Golden saints and the dark seducers ARE daedra from shaegoraths realm when dremora are from mehrunes dagon (i think)

Interestingly, while the Aureal (Golden Saints) and Mazken are Daedra who dwell in The Shivering Isles and serve Sheogorath, there is ample suggestion that they are not actually native to that realm. How and when they entered his service is one of the many things left unanswered, just as the details of how and when the Dremora entered the service of Dagon, whom they did not always serve, is an open question.

I'm a big fan of the Daedra in these games, hopefully they'll be just as exotic looking as in Morrowind. Especially the Dremora armor and weapon set :P

Looking forward to see Daedra return
Hope to see Daedroth looking more like they did in MW than the overweight bipedal lizards we got in Oblivion
Would love to see Ogrim and Winged Twilights again too

Spider dredra can go away unless they are seriously redesigned. The anstronachs or how ever you spell it also looked a lil poor hope they r much more hardcoe and interesting design wise, don't get me wrong it's just the slight goofie ness of the storm guys the weener nes of the flame ones and the generic crystal frost dudes. I want the flame ones to be fluid and rauaging I want the thunder nicknamed discombobulating trolls to be have weight and particle effects, and the ice ones to be some where in between.

I wanna see dremoras and Golden Saints, and I hope them to be really hard to kill, since attending to lore:

"Golden Saints: These magical females are the spawn of Sheogorath and are feared for their combat abilities. They spawn with high-level weaponry and shields, and have the highest soul value of any generic Daedra type."

I'd like Daedroth to look like a pumped-up version of this -

New information on Frost Atronachs from PC Gamer:

When time resumes, an angry, floating Dragon Priest appears and summons a Frost Atronach, a curved-headed, no-faced, upright lobster creature with an electric blue shell.

New information on Frost Atronachs from PC Gamer:

So....

http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/26816-the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-windows-screenshot-spellcasters.jpg to http://www.flipframe.com/image/FrostAtronach_WebPose.jpg to http://n-sb.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/leslie-ricker-blue-lobster2.jpg

That design actually sounds awesome though. Both familiar and alien, with the facelessness adding in an element of horror. I wonder what they mean by "upright" though. Does it have lobster legs or human ones? I can't imagine a http://www.phantasmicattractions.com/images/monster/LobsterMan1.jpg

when you think about it, can you blame the daedra from being pissed off and wanting to wipe us out? your sitting at your table drinking you cup of blood and eating some delicious roasted orphan........ZAP!......all of a sudden you standing in some stupid ruin or cave right in the middle of a bunch of armed men. for some reason a mysterious force makes you run towards them while some skinny little sissy wizard runs away and abandons you to your painful pointy/smashy fate. me personally, i would NOT be a happy camper after that. after your painful death and you eventually get reformed in daedraland you live in constant fear that at any moment you will be summoned by some other [censored].

I generally summon Daedra to amuse myself and to impress and intimidate the local yokels. I sometimes have them provide distraction in a battle, but I usually deal the heavy damage, AND I am kind enough to heal them afterwards, so as to make the remainder of their stay in Nirn pain free and pleasant. See how wonderful I am. lol

Indeed, I can't wait to see what scamps look like. Scamps are the best things about Oblivion.

Scamps are funny. They look like mutated elves and something weird combined.
Also, did anyone notice that the scamps in Morrowind have a voice like a woman?
Just asking.

Dialogue in Battlespire suggests that daedra loyalties are frequently fluid, especially for the 'seducer' types. Many of the convos in that game suggested that daedra don't even really comprehend death as we understand it. They'll allow themselves to 'die' simply to prove a point, fulfill a debt of honor, etc. Its pretty alien, and its one of the most fantastically unique things about the TES lore.

There's even the sense that an individual daedra's 'type' is more like an emergent result of their intelligence level, personality, power, and self concept, all of which can change. Its implied that a given daedra might be one type at one time and a different type at another, and this even extends to the daedra princes. Gender presentation is also implied to be more a matter of choice/personality/self concept, as daedra don't mate the way mortal races do. I imagine they're quite amused that we respond so strongly to what are relatively minor differences in physical shape. It may also be that how they appear is partly based on how mortals expect them to appear, which helps to explain the differences between daedra appearance in the various games.

I really miss that level of depth for daedra. Oblivion was an opportunity missed, since aside from a handful in Camoran's Paradise and some limited stuff in Shivering Isles we saw next to no personality or culture among daedra at all, even though they were everywhere.

Since norse mythology contains strong examples of the 'trickster' archetype, I'd say scamps in particular have a place in Skyrim. Of the other types, I think only spider daedra would strongly clash with a nordic atmosphere, and even they could possibly be worked in. The fire and frost daedra as portrayed in Daggerfall would fit as well. It always did confuse me how atronachs went from being golems in Daggerfall to being daedra in later games though.
