Organizing your inventory / Minimizing what you carry

How are you organizing your items? How are you minimizing what you have to carry?

This discussion is mostly geared toward hardcoe mode, but can apply to casual mode as well.

I for one feel a bit overwhelmed with the sheer amount of weapon, ammo, aid, and crafting items. In hardcoe mode this is challenge compounded.

Definitely enjoying the new crafting value of all these new items, but organizing it all can be a bit time consuming.

Please don’t say take “X” perk, please don’t say use “X” companion. We know about the perks that allow for inventory/carry buff. We know companions can function as pack Brahmin.

I’ll start it off with some general tips:

*Energy Weapon Ammo:
Condense your ammo into overcharge or max charge ammo. This is going to condense your ammo stock, allowing you to carry more It is going to tear up your weapon, but you’ll be shooting a lot less with the buffed damage rate.

*Stop being a walking weapons emporium: I love walking around with a wide variety of death dealing tools, but in hardcoe mode this become less practical. Go with a 2-3 weapon load out. I go with a long distance weapon, a close range weapon, and a melee (for those low HP hordes). Do you really need more than this? Bonus points for taking weapons easily repaired.

I always played Fallout 3 as if my ammo had weight. I would only carry one rifle, one or two pistols, two frags, two mines, and the Trench Knife. Same goes for New Vegas. I think with everything I have it's around 30 lbs.

All American - 240 rounds
9mm w/extended mags - 120 rounds
Suppressed .22 - 70 rounds
2 Frags
2 Mines
Straight Razor/Knife/Machete (haven't found a melee weapon I really like yet)
Binos
Vault 13 Canteen

I only carry the essential medical supplies too. If I need food or water while I'm out, I'll either loot it or kill something.

Stimpacks - 20
Med-X - 3
Psycho - 3
Jet - 3
Rad-X - 3
RadAway - 5
Hydra - 3
Anti-Venom - 3

Oh yeah, I also only wear the Roving Trader Outfit with 1st Recon Beret. All that is about 30 lbs.

Don't pick up a bunch of those toy rockets from the Dino gift shop, just the amount you need during its related quest. While they don't have weight, they do annoyingly stay in your inventory, with no way to get rid of them.

Everything that doesn't have weight stays in my inventory.
Other than that I carry 5 weapons, Plasma Defender, Multiplas, Laser Rifle [3-Mods], Incinerator and that automatic laser rifle.
Raul has his inventory stuffed with EC, MFC, ECP and FF.
Other than that I usually raid fridges for food, but I don't carry water with me.
And since chems don't have weight (Obsidian, why don't they have weight?) I don't have any set limit for them.

I average around 140-160 Lbs, at normal.

I like to carry my.

.50 cal sniper for long range with normal, hollow point, AP and Inc. rounds. this weapons is a freaking beast!
trail carbine for medium range
Ranger Sequoia for close.

Boons beret
some +20DT armor

a lot of meds and chems

I like to stay out for a long time exploring without having to make frequent trips back to town.

Yea there are alot of weightless items that really clutter your inventory.

Kinda of wish they made a subdivison in the inventory something science crafting misc, edible crafting misc, ammo craft misc.

I *try* to travel light, but no matter what character I play, I always fill up bit by bit to my carry weight and then have to start eating/discarding stuff. I'm just a pack rat I guess.

My one exception is my stealth/pacifist character. She carries no weapons and only has a couple different clothing outfits for different stats, so she's golden even with a 2 ST. :)

Standard loading for me has crept up over the course of the game.

As it stands i'm at a rediculous 110 or so.

T-51b
1st Recon Beret

Cowboy Repeater loaded with .38 special and SWCs
Ratslayer
9mm Pistol
Euclid C-Finder (15 pounds right here)

then a collection of survival equipment and ammo.

I know i'm not exactly optimised in this area but i've got strong back, effective S8 and two followers to fill the role of packrats. Haven't run into any real problems hauling loot yet.

Yeah I'm around the same weight in HC mode, pretty hard to drop it any lower unless you stop wearing armor, go melee, or limit your food resources.
