Can't seem to start Boone's quest, am I screwed?

Post » Tue May 18, 2010 12:39 pm

I can't seem to start Boone's quest... I know about needing history points, but I just assumed paying
a visit to the Fort and taking out Caesar and all the Legion would be enough. I already took care of
both Nelson and Cottonwood Cove about 15-20 hours ago and don't want to replay all of that just
because Boone wasn't with me.

I resurrected Aurelius of Phoenix in Cottonwood Cove and killed him again, just to check how much
more points I'd need and it was enough. But I prefer not to use the console command, so except for
the history points listed in the wikia, is there another way? We frequently kill respawning Legion guys
at the camp where they've taken Powder Gangers prisoner and at Nelson, but to no avail.

So, I'd rather not use the console command, but I will if I have to. Help?

Have you dropped the radioactive barrels on Cottonwood? That, plus killing Caesar worked for me.

I cleared Cottonwood the old fashion way and so those barrels are still in the truck. I also freed Frank's
family from the 'Left My Heart' quest, so I guess it couldn't hurt to try and drop those barrels with Boone
in my company. Hope it works, thanks!

If that doesn't work and you've already done every single other Boone-history quest, I'm afraid the console commands are the only way. Just killing legion respawns won't do anything. Since he's one of the earliest companions you can get, a lot of his stuff happens early. I always thought it was poor planning that two of the quests can easily be done by a new player unfamiliar w/the game before they even get to Novac...assuming said player is following the somewhat linear main quest path.

The wiki isn't always correct since it's sometimes written by people making erroneous connections when they play. You need 5 points...doing the Fort + Caesar isn't 5 points. And since you mentioned the wiki, I assume you've already talked to Manny about Bitter Springs.

Okay thanks for the info, I hope dropping the barrels will work!

Me too, at least with the other companions you can revisit the locations that will kick-start their quests.

Yes I tried to talk to Manny, but I had already used all dialog options and Bitter Springs wasn't there (anymore?).

Or maybe killing the captured Legion guy at McCarran will work, but I'd prefer not to do that, either. I'll try the barrel first and if that doesn't work the Legion guy's gotta go.
