Dragons and abosrbing souls/powers

Post » Wed May 19, 2010 11:19 am

Hey all,
I no longer get as much time for gaming as i used to couple of years ago but i still try to dig as many info as i can on my favourite games and TES series is one of em. And i am sorry before hand if it has been asked/discussed before but i did a quick search and did'nt find the exact info i am looking for.
Now coming to the question,
If i remember correctly, in a skyrim video i heard Todd saying that being a dragonborn yourself, once you kill a dragon you absorb its soul/power, and i also heard him saying that there will be basically unlimited numbers of dragons in skyrim since they can be spawned randomly as well as found in some specific locations. So how is this gonna work? If there are unlimited dragons then can u continue absorbing their powers to grow stronger? does'nt make sense to me. Any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Soul Gems?

Edit: I know, sigil stones. Dragon souls are probably similar to that.

hmm ok, well then that will make dragon's no special then any common adversary, i thought of it in a way that killing a dragon grants you some specific or perhaps unique powers like perks, well i guess unless we get more info all we can do is to speculate.

Ability to learn shouts isn't unique?

No I believe killing the dragon allows you to read certain words on ancient Walls. After absorbing the soul the words of a particular wall will glow, once activated you learn the shout. There are only so many of these Walls and so only so many shouts...

That's what I understand anyway...

I'm guessing that once you've learnt all shouts, absorbing the souls of defeated dragons will have no further benefit. In which case, I'm hoping the word walls (etc) are fairly well hidden throughout the game world.

I may be wrong of course, as we can do nothing at the moment but speculate.

I agree and am pretty sure these Walls will be very well hidden and well guarded.

One of the June magazines said a Dovahkiin chant ensues as you near a word wall. The word also glows yellow.

They way I understood it was that DragonShouts have a completely different mechanic than normal magic. Where magic requires magicka for "fuel", the dragon shouts require dragon soul as "fuel". So its not like you're absorbing new powers, but rather filling the fuel tank for the DragonShouts.

Could be wrong on that though.

Shouts are tied to a cool down timer. Absorbing dragon souls allow you to read words off walls.

Makes sense if the souls had more purpose than that. Maybe they'll act like a free enchant like the sigals or might even throw magical rainbows at you. (they kinda do if you watch the trailer)

Plus there are loads of new powers that you can't just do with normal magic. Like I'm sure I read somewhere that you can pause time with one of the shouts? And something about there being 3 levels to shouts as well? Correct me if I'm wrong.
