Which is better?

Post » Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:29 pm

I personally think Fortune Finder is better, I find anywhere between 5 and 50caps in just about anything I open, give or take a few.
I took this one with my second character.
Now on my third character and I've taken Fortune Finder AND Scrounger....but I don't really see the Scrounger one working too effectively.
Has anyone taken either or both of these? Did you see a difference?

I used them all the time on FO3, but not so much in NV, as most ammo that you could use it for MF Cell, E cell are not found in containers unlike in FO3.
Guns however you can just use the reloading bench and buy loads of cheap 22lr, 9mm, 10mm, 375 mag, 44 mag, 20 guage ammo for 1 cap and make whatever you wish.
I see it coming in handy some times but as the game is very linearally spaced by the time you reach vegas you should have at least one gun and ammo for free that can perform at the specs for those areas.
That and merchants and enough caps to provide the best ones with ammo, ( * if you follow that path exactly, and not risk high level critters early on ) .

The test of the perk is head to Nellis airbase and see how many missiles you find in containers, on a normal playthrough it's roughly 20, if you double this then thats quite a few caps.

Niether is useful realy. On a prospector character maybe as rp but rollplay wise its better to just sleep three days and rehunt powder gangers fiends and whatnot then it is to loot buildings.

It wpould be different if containers respanwed thier contents but will have to wait for a mod for that.

Oh and energy cells and fusion power cells and ecps DO come in containers ammo bpxes mostly but they also sometimes pop up in other things too.

Fortune Finder is a wasted perk, in my opinion. I have more caps than I can spend very early in this game. Having so many caps means I can more ammo than I'll ever need.

Unless you are the kind of player who carries around a diverse arsenal at all times, Fortune Finder is a little more direct in its effectiveness.

Scrounger: Find a ton of extra ammo, most of which you will just end up selling for caps (and will weigh you down in the meantime if you are on hardcoe).

Fortune Finder: Find some extra caps, which are weightless and easily converted into whatever other goods you want in a single step (i.e., buying stuff).

That said, I haven't tried them in this game, but I did find that Scrounger more noticeably increased my ammo intake than Fortune Finger increased my cap intake in FO3...

Yes, yes, no. I've taken them individually and at the same time. I haven't seen much difference with them in NV. Every time I opened a container and got caps or ammo it was still weak. I started wondering if they randomly affected containers rather than just change the contents of every one of them. I got anywhere from 5-10 or 15-20 caps each time and roughly the same ammo.

Compare that to FO3 where I'd find 50 caps with Fortune Finder and roughly the same ammo.

I consider them completely useless in New Vegas.

caps are easy to come by. the weapon repair kits allows weapon to be repaired. unwanted weapons can be repaired and sold. getting 500 or more profit.

if you are using the alien blaster, scrounger will yield 40 more ammo. the second time i got AB i had 190 ammo. should be enough to take out all the death claws in the game.

Ah...okay cool beans :)
I was just curious.
I svck at gambling. I've tried it a few times in game, at various casinos. But even with my luck on 7 I still svcked ;)
So I don't think I'll take either of the perks again, but found Fortune Finder kind of fun for my character, who's definitely more of a scavenger type - I steal, like, everything I can lay my hands on (except for tin cans).

IMO both perks are useless.

Gambling tips: If you want to make alot of caps just go to a roulette table and put the max bet on one number, the payout is 36:1 so more than likely you'll gain caps and break the house.

My bad, I meant they are less comon in containers, rather than "never found" in them.

FO3 by far and away had a ton of containers mostly with an average or better lock that held quite a few MF cells or likewise.
Where as in NV the most common found EW ammo seems to be stacked in locked rooms, or in stores imo,

Thanks for the catch though, cheers.
