I'm sorry, i feel stupid for asking :)

I'm sorry, maybe it's a stupid question, but is there a place to live, where I can sleep and have my things in? Like a house or shack that counts like my own. I remember i could buy a house in Fallout 3, isn't it possible in Fallout: New Vegas? I have tried finding an answer to that in this forum, but I can't find it.

No idea, but you can find plenty of beds around the area. Did you just start? You can probably find a bed in good springs, I use the BOS bunker now a days. If you are friendly with NCR there is also Camp McCarren which has a ton of beds. It would be nice to have a house to stash stuff though...

There's a hotel room you can use in Novac. You can also stay at the Lucky 38 casino, or the Tops casino. Both have luxury suites you can obtain during quests.

Novac... Get yourself there and you'll have a "mini Megaton" for all your storage/nappy" needs...

You can't have an actual house of your own, but you can set up a permanent home in several locations.

In Goodsprings, you can use Victor's shack. There isn't much in terms of storage there (just an ammo box and a desk, IIRC), but it'll do if you're not super picky. There's also a bed in there. I've stored stuff in there from the beginning of the game, and it's been there many, many, many days afterwards. Not all locations on the map will do that though, so be careful.

Your first, official house, would be the Novac motel apartment you can get. It's got plenty of storage options, so you can organize your loot (there's a fridge, a dresser, a cabinet, a desk, a safe (non lockable), a suitcase and a foot locker. Of course, there's bed as well.

Finally, there's the Suite in the Lucky 38 that you can get later in the game once you get to the Strip. It is somewhat customizable, and it is quite large. At that point in the game, you can actually send your companions back to that Suite, rather than having them go back to their respective homes when dismissed.

There are other locations in the Mojave, such as abandoned shacks, that you could potentially use, but they may not have permanent storage.

If you go with the NCR and after you've helped them, you'll be given a key to the NCR Safe House. It's pretty centrally located with good storage, beds and a reloading bench. There are other Safe Houses you'll have access to depending on what you do for some factions.

If you've just started, I suggest you use Goodsprings either Easy Pete's house (I bunk with Pete, he's cool) or the robots shack. Both are safe and until you really know your way around the game will take care of all of your needs.

Goodsprings has a general store, doctor, a mailbox, workbenches.........everything a wasteland explorer needs. It also has a tavern but only one boring customer.

actually, from what I've seen using the Geck, very few containers, and no general containers that I've looked at, have the 'respawns' box flagged.

I'd say that baring unforeseen circumstances you can live just about anywhere, because as far as i can tell you can dump your stuff in any container and it will be safe. course you might still want to test by waiting a few days but i think it will be good.

so if you find an empty house, or "empty" one yourself you can live there

Once you clear the Bison Steve you can use it. The room behind the lobby desk has good storage. The kitchen has fridges and a campfire nearby. Plenty of beds too. In Goodsprings I use the gas station. In Nipton I used the house near the city with the reloading bench. I've moved everything out of there now that I have the Novac hotel room. Harper's shack is ok (has everything), but you have to deal with Viper gangers and there are Deathclaws nearby. Novac would be much better if there was a campfire.

This x1000. They should have moved the workbenches and a campfire into the courtyard area.

I have just started using Harper's shack. I really like it. I prefer a safehouse in the middle of nowhere though.

I never felt at home in New Vegas. One thing they could have done better imop.

Never any sense of belonging like in Megaton or Tenpenny. I always felt like the outsider. That's not a bad thing, but it did take away from the home part. I never decorated anything like I did with the two homes in FO3.

For me, it was Easy Petes from start to finish. He let me use the big bed and the footlocker as my own. I used lucky 38 on a seperate run to do something different and then the f*n thing locked me in due to fatal programming errors and I restarted from a prior save and begged Easy Pete to let me back and he said ok, so that's my place.

I never thought of using the Bison Steve as a home. It sounds awfully convenient except for the dark lighting which I'm sure will start to depress me after a while. The Novac motel room is starting to get old and I'll definitely try something out in the open or somewhat isolated for my next playthrough.

Novac Hotel Room
Lucky 38 Suite
Tops Suite
Ultra-Luxe Suite
NCR Safehouse
Caesar's Legion Safehouse
Followers OTA Safehouse
BoS Safehouse Bunker (my favorite)
Any home that you make, like a place that has a bed and looks good enough for you to stay in it.

I love the feeling of being completely foreign and never having that stability of a permanent residence. This is the wasteland and you're basically all alone (outside of companions, which I don't use). You have to scrounge, explore and sometimes murder and steal to survive. Necessities would have an even greater value and shelter should be difficult to come by.

On my first play-through I used the trailer at Goodsprings Source. There is water to drink, a place to sleep, and a container to store your stuff in. Most importantly everything is near the spawn point after fast traveling.
