Crippling

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 4:30 pm

I was reading the Todd Howard interview with the Norwegian Magazine and one of the questions asked this:

Quote: Can you cripple enemy's limbs?

- How should I answer this? Yes, there is a kind of system, but not like in Fallout 3

So I'm wondering how are they going to implement something like the crippling system in Fallout?

In Norwegian the word used is "fjerne", which means remove, not cripple..

It's probably just going to be implemented into to those ridiculous kill movies after you beat an enemy. Don't get your hopes up.

That coud mean a perk that would cripple the enemy's limbs or more likely...

They will not be implementing something Like the fallout system.

It may just be me but when he says '........not like in Fallout' was a big clue to this. :)

The system in fallout was if a leg was crippled it slowed the NPC, if an arm was crippled it lowered the weapon effectiveness, but the system also includes the way you fix a crippled limb.

There has been alot of talk about the ability to cut off limbs and decapitate NPC, this could be implemented as some of the finishing moves associated with the weapons, instead of like fallout where crippling could happen at any time during a fight.

That would make sense since I read some other quotes from Todd where he mentioned that dismemberment will exist in Skyrim, but not to the extent that it did in Fallout 3. So that's probably what he's referring to there, and not limb crippling. It would be nice to see crippling brought into the game though, but it would need to be handled better than Fallout. It was pointless in that game since you could just open up your Pipboy and heal your limbs immediately. You shouldn't be able to deal with it until after the battle is finished.
