Skyrim's Map System

Since the map will now be the camera zooming out very far, how do you think the dungeon maps will display the area?

You get too zoom around/outside the dungeon. Like there's a black vacuum around the dungeon in which the camera circles around in. That's my guess.

But honestly... I'd actually just prefer a old, worn map. I've mentioned that before.
I'm not really into this "google maps"-like system. I find a simple map, one that you can actually imagine holding in your hands, more "immersive" and "RPG"-ish than what we've been told so far about Skyrim's "map" system. This goes for the exterior map and dungeon map and so on. Generally, I find a an old, worn map more fitting for Skyrim than this "google maps"-like system.

Sometimes simple is better.

I completely agree with you! I like looking at a simple sepia toned map of a dungeon.

I would have to agree as well. It would fit a lot better with the whole 'rugged' feel they are going for. Not to mention that a 3d map detracts from the sense of exploration and wonder, in my opinion of course.

"But honestly... I'd actually just prefer a old, worn map. I've mentioned that before." Im sick of all the fancy stuff people try to do with the map and it ends up making it harder to use.

As if a menu popping up in front of your face is any more realistic.

It's more realistic than zooming out to a birds point of view...
And maybe it doesn't pop up in front of your face, and you actually pull it up with your hands... :o

There should be a game where there are no menus at all. You insert the disc and start playing right away. Need a map? Take it out of your pocket. Need a compass? Take it out of your pocket, and so on.

If the dungeons are complex, a simple 2D map won't do it justice. I would love a 3D map that you can rotate (like in Daggerfall dungeons). For the outside world, I am ok with either. It makes sense that you might have an old parchment map for Skyrim, but for the dungeons it's much more of a "mental map".

A 3d map is more of a mental picture in your character's head of the area's he's visited.

I'd like to see all areas greyed out that I have not been to yet.
