Wolves! (And other predators)

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 8:10 am

I was re-reading some old Skyrim info about how wolves and other predators will actively hunt, like wolves will attack and kill mammoths, but after they kill said mammoth, what will they do? I'm not sure if there will be some kind of animation of the wolves eating the mammoth, or maybe dragging it back to their lair or whatever.

I was just wondering what everyone else thought Bethesda will do with that based on what they have said so far and the direction they're trying to go with Skyrim, if this has already been discussed or everyone knows what will happen, then sorry! i searched it and didn't come up with anything.

I know Bethesda(Todd i think) said in a recent interview their will be some form of dismemberment but not like in Fallout 3, i'm not sure if the wolves will rip it to pices and drag it back, or just clip their heads through and do some biting animation.

I doubt the Mammoth will be mauled into pieces. My guess is the wolves will just leave it alone after they kill it, and walk away.

With all detail going into the behavior of wild creatures, there's no doubt that there will be an eating animation.

It's not like that will be hard to do after all. I also read somewhere that wolves etc. will hang around the corpse for awhile after making a kill, they won't simply walk away immediately afterwards.

I'm thinking the eating animation as well. I expect if you get too close to this scene the wolves will see you as a threat to their food and attack you as well.

It was mentioned before that the wolves will stay around that general area and guard their kill. They won't attack other things unless they come to close or threaten them.

I think it's likely there will be an eating animation, though no effect on the corpse. However I think there is room for some doubt.

It should have a simple eating animation or nothing at all. The dragging would look goofy and Im not gonna follow them around to see their Radiant Wolf AI anyway.

Ah, thank you for that, and while we're on the topic of predators eating, what about dragons? If they hang around the corpse without eating it would look kinda silly. "IM GONNA KILL YOU MAMMOTH, 'kay now i'm gonna hang around here for a while" So i guess there has to be some kind of eating animation but it would look weird, to me any way, for a dragon to chomp on something then just fly away a few hours later, with no effect on the body.

Dragons will probably just kill and fly away. Or just fly down, kill a mammoth or whatever, then come straight for you! :toughninja:

Weren't saber-tooth tigers also confirmed or am I just imagining things? I'd imagine they'd act the same as the wolves though, I'm sure bears would act in a similar manner as well. One thing I am hoping for is some kind of vulture/buzzard to be in game as well like in that concept with the bear standing next to the mammoth corpse with vultures/buzzards flying around the corpse. It would definitely add a nice touch to it.
