You need 12.7mm ammo.

The 12.7mm round is a consumer-grade rifle round of identical chamber size to the military-grade .50 caliber, but less powerful.

Not sure why they won't both fit, if they have the same chamber size. I'm not a gun nut IRL.

Yeah, I found like 40 bullets of this ammo type, it's amazingly uncommon.

Well, the .50MG is a MG round, so I assume that's the difference.

.50bmg is your 12.7x99 rifle round. That goes in the AMR.

12.7mm is a pistol round, like the .50 action express made famous by the Desert Eagle. It's a shorter cartrige and is fired by the 12.7 mm SMG.

Same width, different length, bullet and powder.

So to summarise, ingame.

12.7mm= Fat pistol cartrige = 12.7mm pistol and SMG

.50= 12.7x99mm round = very large rifle cartrige = AMR

Yep. I wonder why it's so rare. I've seen lots of .50bmg ammo, and I've seen a few 12.7mm SMGs. Haven't seen one 12.7mm pistol or a single 12.7mm round yet.

I found the pistol and have only about 50 bullets for it.

I have a silencer on this pistol and use it only for my "special" dealings.

Not /thread . . .but thanks cupasoup for being useless..

And Roger Thanks for clearing up the difference between the ammo(really) but the real question is then where is this ammo and Why can't U craft it at the bench.. I have the ammo finding perk and maxed out Repair with the repair perk to give all ammo crafts and its still not craftable/findable .. 10 lvls exploring/looting and not a single bullet past the 40 or so I have found?.. anyone know anything?

Can't you craft it if it's rare to find at vendors?

I have no real trouble finding 12.7mm ammo at level 17, quite a merchants will often have it for sale now and i have stocked up on it and currently have a little over 200 rounds and i also got a few 12.7mm pistols from the Great Khans when i massicured them, the only ammo i can't find for sale anywhere is .45-70 gov't normal rounds, i can buy hollow point bullets nearly anywhere but have only managed to get the normal round from Khans carrying hunting revolvers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rifle_cartridge_comparison_w_scale.png This is a .50MG (far left)

See the difference?

The diameter is the same but the length and projectile is MUCH different

The SMG is the pan magazine one, right?

If so, I think I remember seeing some of the fiends in Vault 3 using those weapons in one of my loads in there; ED-E died so I had to load and after the reload they didn't have the SMGs but still had a bit of 12.7mm ammo I think..?

I would try the Gun Runner robot though I don't recall offhand if 'he' carries that specific round.

My last idea is that guy in McClarren AFB's supply hut, if not before his quest, then perhaps after you gain access to his private stash.

Like it matters what they call the ammo in THIS game. With all it's real guns and that.......
