Will guilds still be in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 4:52 pm

Im sure this has probably been posted or confirmed by bethesda, but i really dont want to be looking through hundreds of posts in search for the answer.

Will Guilds (Warrior, Theif, Mage, Assassins, etc) still be included in Skyrim? Will there also be other different guild put into Skyrim?

Eversince ive played oblivion i loved the fact that can join those guilds and actually rise in ranks and have quests to do for them inorder to rise and gain some rewards. Also, to have other different guilds would be interesting and awsome. (woodcutting, Mining, Paladin, Monks, Priest, etc) Just some ideas that would be awsome... Cant wait until Skyrim comes out!!!

The only guild that's confirmed so far is the Dark Brotherhood. The mages guild will be broken up into the College of Whispers and the Synod I believe. The fighters guild will probaby have a different name/purpose as well since the empire fell after the Oblivion crisis.

Although I have never used it, I've heard the forums has a search function to help you find a topic. To answer your question, guilds have been confirmed. Though they have yet to give us any details on them.

Yes. They've confirmed the Dark Brotherhood, but no other guilds have been confirmed by name. In the Infernal City (A book in the series set after Oblivion), the Fighters Guild and Mages guild are dissolved and the mages guild is replaced by the Synod and College of Whispers. It is unknown if it will be the same or different in Skyrim.

Todd has said they are approaching them a litle differently to before, so it will be interesting to see what they do with them.

Does anyone know if the guilds will be restricted to your skills like in morrowind?

One thing I hated in Oblivion is that a pure mage character could become highest rank in the fighters guild even though you might not have any fighting skills.
In morrowind it was done better. You needed your fighting skills to be a certain level before you can advance further. It was the same in all the guilds.

I know Skyrim wont have a class system but i'm assuming it will still have a skill system so guilds you can only advance based on your skills would be possible.

That makes sense to an extent - fighting with magic is still fighting. It gets weird when a bloodthirsty barbarian with virtually no magic skills becomes head of the Mages Guild.

That said, certain guilds should have restrictions; perhaps in the form of trial by combat for the Fighters Guild, or a stealth challenge for the Thieves Guild (though that was sort of implemented in Oblivion). The Mages Guild should have skill requirements.

There will be guilds. But we only know of the Dark Brotherhood confirmed to make a return.

I'm thinking two afforementioned aspects may be brought in. A trial needs to be completed to join and you have to have a certain level of a certain relevant skill to improve your ranking in each guild.

its a safe bet the 4 main guilds will be in.

the question should be what other guilds will be in.

temple? knight orders? vampire hunters? house/earl quests? vampire clans? imperial legion?

If you can`t wait for those other guilds then you could just try playing Morrowind. There`s 10 different guilds in there: The Temple, The Imperial Cult, The Legion, Great House Redoran, Great House Hlaalu, Greate House Telvanni, Mages guild, Thieves Guild, Camonna Tong. There`s also some pretty interesting guilds in Daggerfall. You can download Daggerfall for FREE by the way. It`s is an old game, though. Still, it`s good to play if you`re a TES fan.

Oh, and on topic... I kind of doubt there will be any woodcutting, Mining, Paladin, Monks and Priest guilds. This is just my opinion but I think they are making the game streamlined, meaning there will only be Thief/mage/warrior type guilds. But we`ll see if I`m right when Skyrim comes out.

The Mages Guild will be broken up in Skyrim because of the fall of the empire. Same with the Fighters Guild too.

Fighters Guild too?

I imagine so, since they were part of the Empire. Maybe it'll be a different kind of Fighters Guild with a different purpose. It's just a safe bet to assume that they will be different, since Todd only confirmed DB to be in so far.

There never appeared to be any dissent in the fighters guild so I think they'd remain intact. They'll prob have some competition though.

Please take the time to read the posts. It's been mentioned several times now that the only ones we know of for sure is the Dark Brotherhood and some form of Mage's guild.
