Dragon flight animations

Post » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:47 am

In the trailer at 1:48 there is that one clip where the Dragon is turning around to take another swoop at the player. Here is an image of the scene http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/848/dragonyz.jpg/

And here is a link to the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjqsYzBrP-M

If you pay close attention at the animation as it turns it seems to turn really abruptly. Try re-watching that one part a few times and you will see what I mean. It looks like the Dragon is switching really quickly between a turning animation and a swooping animation. But I thought that new technology they had eliminated this? Could this be that they are still working on it?

It's pre beta and 5 months and 27 days from release. I'd be surprised if there isn't any transition animations, especially with Havok Behavior.

Yeah I thought this too. Maybe they intended to cut that scene shorter to hide it but they forgot :P

I looked at the trailer and it seemed like the dragon was trying to swoop quickly after turning. :shrug: It didn't look too abrupt to me. Plus they're magical creatures, so their physics don't have to look completely normal I guess.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I see Havok Behavior doing what it's supposed to do.

Ehhh, pish-posh. The game will be fine when it is released. I'm sure they are working on dragons a lot.

In case you didn't know, real animals can make abrupt turns too.

Only new thing I noticed from the trailer last time I watched, is that there are 2 dudes walking in that snowy mountaintop building, and that at the last scene, where the other dragon takes off, there's a badly placed tree .... unless it's supposed to be that way.

Not on topic but I just wanted to mention that :)

Now, if dragons fly like that I'll probably wet myself with fear.

It's fine, there may have been some minute jumping in the animation, but nothing too noticeable. I mean really, if you're playing against one of these and they suddenly make a deft turn, it's to be expected, they're dragons. And, as aforementioned, it's 5-6 months to release, no biggie.

Can you post some screengrabs please? I don't see the two people, nor the tree?

:shakehead:

Animation =/= Movement direction.

The animation doesn't change, the animation is completely seamless, just as Havok behavior promises. It's movement direction changes. That can probably be smoothed out fairly easily by the time the game is out.
