dumb armour question for seasoned players

The Paladin in your BOS safehouse is the best choice for repairs. If you don't have him then you can go to the Mojave Outpost for repairs. You also buy power armor in Hidden Valley, on the first floor (I believe) you'll find a girl behind a counter who will sell it to you.
what is the BOS safehouse you mention?...hidden valley is gone [KABOOM]..ideally i would like to not spend money

The perk jury rig is usefull, you'll need a repair skill of 90 to get it as a choice, then just use metal armour found in most traders stocks.
Other repairs are offered by Old lady Gibson just north of Novac, and I think Mick and Ralph's offers the service too.
Go to the Repcon building with the robots outside, as it has two dead BoS paladins both with some on.
Or the area full of Centaurs on Black mountain, and just in the artillary field outside of Nelis airforce base each have a spare suit of PA you can use.
The trader inside the Hoover dam sells it, and you can allways kill some heavy NCR troops for theirs.
That or the deathclaw areas have some.
