The Vardenfell Experience

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 8:33 pm

.... I feel utterly and totally mentally gone right now. Its my favorite game of all time, how the fudge did I manage to missspell it?

I've seen worse - I've seen people call it Wanderfell in posts. And by people I mean one guy - and he was so shamed by the act that he joined a monastery of the Digambara branch of Jainism. As a Digambara Jainist ascetic he has forsaken all worldly possessions - even clothing. The only belongings he may call his own are a peacock feather broom and a water gourd. Needless to say that besides his post announcing his decision to atone for his grave error in the spelling of that most beloved of fictitious volcanic islands he hasn't been posting online much. A broom and a gourd don't provide a particularly stellar online experience; I mean unless you cheat and get one of those fancy water gourds with mobile broadband and the touch screen interface. Of course that kind of half-hearted asceticism wouldn't be very effective at shedding the karmic weight of past lives nor would it provide a true path to becoming a liberated being and ascending to Siddhasila.

Anyways - long story shot - at least you didn't spell it with a "W" or you'd have to live naked in a monastery with only a gourd and a broom to your name.

I would definatly play this. I love Morrowind as it is now, and the extra capabilities of a new engine could be rather good. Take, for instance, a nice stealth system.

The problem is the sheer amount of dialogue in Morrowind. That would be a crap load of recording. And then we'd need to make sure the voice acting gives the characters justice. Dunmer would need thier proper voices, for example. Vivec, Fyr, etc. All the important characters without an actual recorded voice would need some attention. Then there's copying (granted, only to a degree) some of the unique voices, such as Ur.

Also, any changes would need to be properly justifyable. for example, the Sixth House isn't a group of murderous puppy killers. They're just misunderstood, and go about a potentially good act the wrong way.

But anyhoo, I would play this. I would even involve myself in creating this. But I would have to play Skyrim itself for quite some time, first. ;)

Vvardenfell doesn't exist anymore

Yeah, this guy is talking about Morrowind back in the day of Morrowind.

I am an avid fan of Morrowind, still play it to this day. I'm constantly getting mods for it and always yearning for more. However, even with mods the Morrowind engine can only do so much, and its an unfortunate truth. I was thinking on how someoen could mod Morrowind to make it seem like a next gen game, then came to the idea. Why not Mod Skyrim to Morrowind? New engine, and new possibilities.

So what this mod would do is rewind time back just a little over 200 years, make the main character the Nerevarine Incarnate, instead of the Dovakiin, and would set you in Vardenfell. Now the mod wouldn't have a different storyline then the Original Morrowind game. Most of the storyline would be the same (with a few new quests, and maybe the ability to join House Dagoth after Dagoth Grares invitiation in the original) and it would have most of the guilds back, including maybe House Indoril. Also with the new engine, their would be the side quest like skills, farming saltrice for Mazte, things like that that are native to Vardenfell.

Please Note, this is not a request to the community to make a mod like this. I'm not asking someone else to do this for me, I have modding experience myself, and even better, I got moddeling experience in several different programs. If enough people seem to want this mod from the poll, I'll start on it now, so that by the time six month's pass and Skyrim is out, I'll have a good number of meshes and textures for the Vardenfell province. Of course by the time Skyrim comes out, I'll probably take a break from modding this, and beat the living daylights out of skyrim untill there is no vanilla content left, and resume the mod, learning how to use the Creation Kit.

Thoughts and idea's? Oh and please no flaming, or spamming if your not a fan of Morrowind. This is not somethign I'm asking the dev's to do, I'm not taking anything away from Skyrim from you guys, just adding vardenfell possibly to those who wish it.

Thanks for reading, and have a good day. Heading to work now, will be back in 9 hours or so.

I voted "yes".

Why? Because Morrowind was devilishly cool and the 360's better graphics could only make a Vaardenfell mod great!

Assuming they'll allow mods on the 360... not likely.

*makes a sad face*

I own Morrowind. But if you managed to see this idea to fruition, I would love to play it. I enjoyed the gameplay in Oblivion a lot more than in Morrowind. From what I can see of how Skyrim will work, I'll like its gameplay even more than Oblivion's. I'd welcome any chance to see how Morrowind plays with an updated system.

No, because everyone is going to be busy making mods for Skyrim. And I wouldn't play it (since I don't have Morrowind on the PC). However, people can still make mods for Morrowind. It's not a very good idea to make a big project for Morrowind at this time, but no one is stopping them.

isnt that ilegal (because then someone could get a free morrowind) and breach of the terms and conditions?(not allowed to mix game content ex: putting oblivion gates in morrowind) if its not then ya id like that because morrowind is the best rpg ive played

Its perfectly legal as long as no actual assets (meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) are transfered between the games.

(back from work finally)
With Oblivion its quite simple to back up the game so that modded versions and vanilla are both still playable. So I imagine with Skyrim it would be easy to back up as well.

And good news, I allready got a few people willing to do this for me and voice act. So if all goes well this could really happen, now I just need to brush up my animating skills in the next six months. lol

The words "over" and "ambitious" spring to mind here. I'd rather see you working on Morrowind's overhaul projects with Kingpix instead, or (even better) working with the OpenMW team, than chasing what is likely to be a folly that goes nowhere. Why recreate Morrowind when the original game is still immensely playable, being modernised and with cross-platform efforts underway? Hell, if you want to undertake a project like this, why not do it with Battlespire or Redguard? They're both criminally overlooked, (more) realistically smaller in scope and would benefit much more from what you want to do than Morrowind would.

I'd rather have a mod that brings you to Vvardenfall in the time of the Dovahkiin. But with a new storyline, maybe after the game - have a mod that brings you by boat to Vvardenfall to visit, but as you visit. Crime rates suddenly explode, and some cult emerges and you have to quest to take them down.

assuming that you did a good job then my dreams of playing morrowind with great combat and nice animations would come true. :)

I'd play a mod the covers the rest of Morrowind (vvardenfell excluded)

Then again given the fact that Vvardenfell exploded, it may have a radically different landscape. Assuming the mod takes place at the same time of Skyrim.

Hell, I'd play in *insert least favorite province here* if I could! The more provinces at once the better..strictly theoretical. I don't want anything half assed.

If you've got the time then go for it ^_^

Morrowind was a great game, and next gen graphics can only make it better.
