How safe are storage containers?

Post » Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:43 pm

All,

How safe are storage containers in FNV?

By this I mean desks, drawers, safes, cabinets, sacks, or anything you find in the world where items can be stored.

I'm just asking because my buddy is using the safe in the Gas Station in the starting town to keep stuff. I warned him that in F3, some containers would periodically be cleaned out or restocked, and same with Oblivion etc, so that you had to know which ones are safe to use.

Does anyone have any experience with long term use of containers, and/or anything about which containers are "safe"?

I'm using the hotel in Novac and so far no problems. Just wondering.

Thanks!

I'm currently storing everything extra in the boxes between the saloon and the store in Goodsprings, on the same wall as the work bench and ammo bench. I haven't lost anything so far in about 15 hours of using them as storage., though I suppose I should cross my fingers! :-P

OK then. I guess we'll just have to experiment and see. :)

Thanks!

Latest rumor is that different platforms may have different respawn rules (the PS3 apparently will respawn containers, according to 3rd hand reports).

Put easily identifiable stuff in a bunch of containers - then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4bdX81tUAg. Come back and see if your container's contents survived the cell being reset after laying idle for 72+ hours.

It might be nice to have a list of safe storage areas. Good Springs has a bunch of impromptu houses, but I'm always a bit leary. Same with the Hotel in Novac. I guess I should just test it out with some stuff I don't care about. I should use those NCR dollars, as I'm always waiting for the exchange rate to change.

There's a warning in the manual only to use containers that you own because things might dissapear if you don't... But so they wrote in the FO3-manual, and I only found one or two resetting crates, soo...

You better do the tests Snabbik proposed...

I think any containers that you get through ownserhip of specifics rooms or houses are perfectly safe. the safe in the room in novac is my main staging area just because its so simple to reach from the fast travel point

I've had issues with certain containers (lockers, desks, etc.), a few people have reported problem with the crafting containers next to workbenches. I've found safes that I've picked to be reliable.

Before I got to Novac, I was using storage containers in Doc Mitchell's house extensively without any problems :)

If you get ED-E as a companion you can store a lot of your inventory in him. Just be sure to keep him alive (not very difficult to do)

I'm not playing in hardcoe mode, so my companion gets up later after she dies. :)

Well, so far! :)

I only store heavy loot on her, nothing critical.

I've been using the containers between the Goodsprings general store and saloon as a test (full of empty bottles and bent tin cans). I'm also storing stuff in the abandoned hut next to the memorial, so far without any problems.

Then again, it's only been a day or so. I should do the waiting for a few days test.

ETA: The crates didn't respawn after a week of waiting, and the abandoned shack only suffered the usual FO3 rearrangement of the milk crates I'd moved and put stuff in. Still not sure about long term storage.
