Currencies

Post » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:01 pm

I am pretty far along into the game, (lvl 26) and i have yet to discover a use for the NCR dollars or the legion coins. Does anyone know what these are used for? to you have to be loved by a certain faction in order to unlock a vendor? Any info is appreciated.

If you mean usefull as in can you use it to buy anything then its no as far as i know, even when im buying stuff from NCR merchants they still take caps and only allow you to sell NCR dollars to them and not actully use them to buy stuff and as an npc will tell you the exchange rate is pretty poor, with a $100 dollar NCR note being worth about 40 caps with a low barter skill. (not sure about a high barter skill since i hav'nt gotten any NCR money in a while now)

You can use a casino to exchange money into different currencies, you don't even need to gamble with it.

i was kind of hoping there would be a special shop or something where you can only spend NCR or legion money, but if you can freely exchange currencies at casinos... i think the different currencies are just for realism/flavour. maybe it would be cool to change all those caps into $100 bills and flash the cash

After hyping up how there were going to be these multiple currencies, the fact that they're pretty worthless is one of the few disappointing game decisions for me. Caps are still the most "profitable", exchange rates are static, and other than casino cashiers, no one takes Legion or NCR currency except to exchange to Caps.

Excluding the plethora of bugs, the currency system is easily my biggest disappointment. Even some NCR soldiers complain they don't get paid in caps.

In all honesty, I understand the NCR concept of paper money, but the Legion's coinage - since someone brought up realism - makes ZERO sense. This is a tribe of slave traders who live in shanty towns yet have nicely stamped gold coins? IMO, the game should have just stuck with Caps throughout rather than adding three different types, two of which do nothing but clog inventory screens or look pretty when you play Caravan.

Well, you can buy anything with NCR money just as you can with caps, even if it doesn't automatically adjust the number etc.

This is disappointing. I was hoping for a unique sort of faction vendor that sold NCR related armor for NCR money. Oh well i guess ill have to wait for a mod to make it more useful? Thanks guys.

Ah.... I had been wondering about this.

Agreed, the currency and other items this time around just clog up the inventory... I wish they had added more inventory categories for some of this stuff.

Anyway, thanks for the info!
