Armor/Weapon with sockets?

Post » Wed Aug 04, 2010 2:29 am

it would be awesome that some items have sockets, so you could put into magical gems or other stuff
this could add variety to the loot u get from dungeons, not only armor and weapons but also powerful gemsn.

What u guys think?

Like how you use a SOUL GEM to add magical effects to a weapon? I think something like that may have been implemented already...

This. Skyrim already has a confirmed system of item enchanting/enhancing. Hopefully it will be an improvement over Oblivion's, somewhat, limited enchanting mechanic.

Or Sacred, or Dragon Age.

Or Diablo II

I think the enchanting system in the TES universe is good, sure it needs some work before the release of Skyrim but I wouldn't want to see it replaced by a socketing system.

Or Diablo 3. I'm happy there are no sockets. Enchanting works much better. Socketing works better with other games...but not TES.

 No thanks to Diablo series and "I am the bane of undead with my 6-socketed-diamond maul!"

Only if it was for the express purpose of making jewelry. Like magic rings and amulets, speaking of wich I hope you can wear more than two rings and one necklace. I mean I guess it's balance thing but it makes no sense.

I don't see why people wouldn't want this... Gems have no other use. Not to mention they were completely worthless.

And no, don't say they can use 'em for Alchemy, that doesn't make sense. They are more attuned to smithing/forging, etc. Alchemy already has a billion ingredients.

The only two rings rule has been a staple of rpg's since DandD in the 1970s. And it's all about magical interactions, so doesn't really have to make sense.

I was actually thinking about the whole socket thing earlier. I think it would be great. Use Enchanting to enchant Topaz and such with a magic effect based on your Enchant skill and the size of the stone then use Armor Craft or Weapon Craft to make something with a socket or multiple sockets depending on how high your crafting skill. Then to actually infuse the Enchanted stone and Item together there could be a requirement like taking it to a grandmaster enchanter and he/she would make the items one for a large price or something of that nature. That way you couldnt just run around enchanting everything easily. Also make the magic effects small bonuses so its not game breaking. I just think more is better. Maybe dumb idea but I don't see how it could hurt in anyway.

But enchanting uses SOUL GEMS, not pretty rocks. As a thief character I demand you leave your pretty stuff unscathed for me.

Yes soul trapping consist of finding and killing a dangerous monster and trap it soul, so to get a good gem you has to kill a high level monster. Hopefully they return to Morrowind’s system so you want a level 50 dragon’s soul for best effect.
Now you can enchant with any fitting spell you know, yes I want to have a dagger with heal on strike.
