Lycanthropy in Skyrim

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:37 pm

Thank you my friend...I have been here for quite sometime and have had yet to receive a true fishy stick...Thank you for your manners Mr. Nihi and may this message find you and yours well...

I am having a truly splendid night, though I must retire after this post, I wish you a restful sleep when you do seek respite.

I agree with this, but we should be able to have a sort of greater power (Once a week?) to turn into a wolf to get out of a bad situation. The uncontrolled transformation should be the most powerful though. The greater power transformation should be somewhat weaker but still useful. Otherwise, it would be pretty much useless to become a Lycanthrope in the first place.

Then I would urge a greater power like uncontrollable frenzy or like the Orks in Oblivion had the berserk (Don't know why the Nords, the true founders of berserk didn't) where the player could utilize an
adrenaline rush and increased strength (w/o transformation) to see themselves out of a hairy situation...

No, absolutely not, no control. If anything a small, permanent and always active boost to STR, STAM, and minor health recov boost.

No greater powers, no spells, no magic. This is a curse.. think of it more like corprus and less like falling into a vat of nuclear waste and emerging with super powers.

I expect a SEVERE weakness to silver weapons, im talking a quarter of a bar of health with a single swing.

It seems you all want being a lycan to be some kind of reward, ITS NOT. Becoming a lycan is supposed to make the game more of a challange, to force you to play in a different way. Lycanthropy is not magic, its a disease... and it sure as [CENSORED] isnt nanobots that you can control. Skyrim is rough and unforgiving, if you dont want to deal with lycanthropy as it would fit best into skyrim then dont be one, or mod yours in. But as i said before, your treating lycanthropy as though its some sort of blessing. In my opinion, any control over it.. any "greater powers" or even if lycanthropy made the gaem anything other than a challange it would be a failure on bethesda's part.

Hmm...Interesting viewpoint...Make lycanthropy very much harder to deal with in-game...A true challenge for those brave enough to live with the curse and be counted among the few of Hircine's True Children...I must concede to your argument...Well-Spoke Sir...http://www.flickr.com/photos/markcoggins/485261669/...

*inclines his head politely*

It simply seemed to me, that with the combat, the reduced level scaling and modified backpedal speed that they are trying to make the game more challenging. With the way combat skills are handled, you need to invest more time into your preferred methods.

Lycanthropy needs to follow this theme.

Lycanthropy needs to be a challenge and a serious investment. Yes, perhaps access to an entirely different perk tree offering a small perm boosts to stats, slightly slowed time in combat, and claws that do heavy damage. But you also have a severe weakness to silver, and the claws/fangs of mystical creatures. another perk ability would be to howl and summon a pack of wolves for combat. traditional (Non TES) lore generally includes that Lykaios, who is regarded as "father wolf" sent spirit wolves to the world to teach those luna afflicted with lycanthropy the ways of the pack.

But, if that is not included i will not cry, as this is TES, not whatever else and MUST stay dedicated to its canon writings.

reardless, thank you for understanding and conceding, lycanthropy was always meant to be a test. But in morrowind it was just too [censored] easy, especially with hircines ring.

If hircines ring is included, how it would works is the person cannot shift while wearing it. So, should their health become low it keeps them from shifting to protect themselves... that is the most control anyone should have over lycanthropy.

I agree with you on that point...Thanks to the perks I gained with lycanthropy in Morrowind, I was basically able to rip Dagoth Ur's head off and crap down his throat...I like your thoughts on the weakness to silver...It would force the player in werewolf form to become quite highly skilled in hand to hand combat to avoid even coming into contact with a silver weapon...I'm afraid that this weakness would also carry into human form with the player not being able to use or handle silver weaponry or armor...

indeed, there should also be a wolve's bane poison that breaks the lycans buff.. no enhanced strengh, stam, run speed or slowed time while udner its effects.. these guys are there to kill you.
