Poor Performance Issues

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:08 pm

I've been playing through Brink, and have only managed to get 10-20fps, with as low as possible settings, even with all shadows turned off and various graphical tweaks enabled.

My Computer specs are as follows:

Intel Core i3 CPU M350 @ 2.27GHz (4 CPUs)

4GB Ram

Nvidia 310M Graphics Card with 1GB Ram

I thought I would be able to run Brink on my machine, as it passed all minimum requirements. Was I wrong? Are my hardware specs too low? Did I pretty much waste my money on this game?

You're playing it on a lower end laptop, right? The i3 is not that great, but you have it paired with a graphics card that just can't keep up. Additionally, if you're running Win7 I recommend upgrading system memory to 8gigs. Your system really isn't a gaming system.

No, he doesn't meet the minimum specs. That mobility video card has a passmark score of 288. The minimum requirement cards have passmark scores just above 700. While passmark scores don't necessarily show everything, they do demonstrate that his video card on his laptop is less than half as fast as the minimum spec cards. Also, 4gigs of ram with Win7 is not good. 4 gigs is fine with XP (especially since that's all it supports), but 4 is not fine for gaming with windows 7.

Ah, that's a shame, CanYouRunIt told me I passed the minimum specs. Last time I trust that website.

Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop.

2.27 Ghz i5

ATI Radeon HD 5450 (1GB)

4GB RAM

I'm getting really bad frame-dropping. It's jerky and uneven at best, and in wide open spaces (Like the Be More Objective challenge rooms) it slows down to 1-3 frames per second.

I've got an external cooling fan and laptop stand to prevent overheating and the heat isn't too bad, so I'm not sure what it is.

But you're not alone.

CLARIFYING: I'm loving the game, but my laptop's just not quite up to it.

You two guys are having problems because of your 5000 series Radeons.

Sirius, my system is similar to yours except I'm using a 4870, my processor is a hair faster, and I have 6 gigs of ram. Everything plays fine for me.

I believe if you guys look in the ATI thread, you'll find some solutions that work. A lot of people are downgrading their catalyst drivers and getting positive results.

When i run the game on my laptop it is very jumpy but i dont know what it is down to, if its RAM thats thats an easy fix for me put if its the processor or video card then im screwed. These are my specs:

WIndows 7 64 bit
AMD V120 Processor 2.20ghz ( i think this is the problem)
2 gb Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series

i have also tried it on my desktop computer it has a 3Ghz processor with 2gb RAM running XP and on this the game wont even start all i get is a microsoft error message asking if i would like to report the error.

I'm noticing a lot of people posting about performance issues with lower-end cards, or decent AMD/ATI cards.

If you're running a 200 series GeForce, or 300 series mobile GeForce you'll likely need to turn down your graphics options in the advanced graphics settings menu. Those cards aren't much above the minimum, and fall far below recommended. I'm not entirely sure if Brink makes much use of SLI or Crossfire (in fact I know Crossfire support is currently disabled, unsure about SLI), so even a 295 might not perform better than the 280 (in fact, if SLI isn't working, it'll perform a bit below a 280).

If you're running an AMD/ATI card, there are simply issues that need to be fixed either by AMD releasing a driver update or Splash Damage patching Brink. It's a known issue (poor performance/grid lines). For 6xxx series cards the 11.5a hotfix drivers seem to make an improvement. For any earlier series of cards your best bet is to go with the 11.3 drivers or earlier (people have reported success on late 10.x drivers up to 11.3, your mileage may vary).
