Plotline quality

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 9:18 am

Okay, well, I don't know about you guys, but I found the plotline of New Vegas pretty bad after I'd dealt with Benny. Why mess with the factions at all?

To me, house was only a delivery. I thought I might have some kind of motivation to work with NCR or Legion. But no, they just tell me to go **** myself, and the game ends.
Why cut so short, Obsidian?

Wouldn't it be cut even shorter if it went- Ok, dealt with Benny, you get Platinum chip to where it was meant to go, game over.

You're a pawn, so it works pretty well. You get told what to do, you go do it. I personally didn't find the game that bad after dealing with Benny.

No, I don't mean they should end the game after you return the platinum chip. I think that there should be some sort of motivation. And, no matter what, I'm a pawn. Even with the independent role. If I want to be "independent" I'd like to be truly independent. NOT another pawn.

I actually agree wholeheartedly with that. I forgot about the fact that there's a supposedly independant role. When I first played the game I didn't actually realise that Yes Man was the indepentant option. I guess they just need someone to guide you but then it sort of does make the Battle at Hoover Dam a bit redundant. I can't remember the independant ending though, does the NCR just take over?

I agree Mr. House was a little underwhelming. I was hoping for an Andrew Ryan-ish personality given his appearance and robots, heheh.

Would be cool if you could interact with the factions a little more since we're no longer a vault kid like the previous fallout games.

Bootcamp for NCR, training missions with your squad to become a ranger..

Same thing w/ legion..

Go on actual caravan runs with the crimson caravan etc

Haven't beat the game yet though I'm waiting for the patch so I can continue my game.

Uh, even if you go out of your way to antagonize the NCR and Legion they'll both come to you with offers after you kill Benny. Maybe you shouldn't continue to antagonize factions you're expecting job offers from when they give you a one-time forgiveness for your past trespasses.

I'm going to be pro-active and move this to the Spoilers board (some of what's already being discussed here borders on spoilerland, at the very least...)

I almost quit the game completely during Come Fly With Me. Basically, most every quest is so foolish and/or juvenile that I want to puke. Other than the "go kill someone" or "go find something" quests - those aren't too bad, though I wonder if I'll get tired of those two plotlines after a hundred of them...

So I have ~30 hours of gaming and all I do is basically roam and kill things and find stuff. Occasionally I'll do a main quest just to move along.

My guess is that some DLC will provide an extension of the ending (like Broken Steel). Also, remember that this is a roleplaying game, so you should be thinking and creating your own motivations for the story after the delivery.
