ive tried 4 times now to try get to the location where driver nephi is but just keeps on freezing as i see fiends attacking me i attack them and it freezes straight away

I'm having this very same problem. I've tried to do different things once I've engaged the fiends (ex: killing Driver Nephi, grabbing his head and making a run for Camp McC), but it always seems to crash after a few minutes.

Have you heard of Vault 3? I hope you didn't kill anyone in there.. there is a trick. With a high enough speech skill (not sure what it is, maybe 75, but save before you go in so you know if you have to use a skill book) you can tell the lady in the front to let you pass because you are there to trade with the boss. ALL fiends in the wasteland will be friendlies. You won't be able to talk to them, but they will NOT be hostile, as long as you don't attack any of them. Maybe this would un-freeze him.
