...What's the point of this thread?

Not to mention with a first post like that, it's bound to get locked.

And that whole thing with baby Dovahkiin was just for laughs, sounds like someone tends to take things a bit too seriously.

There's a prize. Which they'll honor. Therefore it's real.

No it's not okay. It's cheap and sophomoric at best. Any company that promotes something of this nature needs to be slapped with racketeering charges under RICO. Of course the legislation needs a little upgrading for vermin of this character.

Maybe... it's a cool name after all. There are children with far uglier names and they didn't get a prize.

Uhh, Bethesda is barely putting any effort into promoting this thing at all, more than likely it's a joke, but they'll give you something if you do name your baby Dovahkiin, and you can always change the name a week later..

Let me start by saying I am a big fan of the elderscroll series. These guys at BGS obviously have sense of humor and in all probability were just joking(that's not to say they won't honor the dovakhin contest if someone is crazy enough to name their own kid after a videogame. As a parent I can tell you I would never do it, but i would also never name a child Aiden or Brittney or whatever else is in fashion lately. some parents cook up crazy hippy names. Lets just hope that if a child does have parents crazy enough to do it, that the home they are raised in is an otherwise sane and healthy place to grow up.:)

Hm, seems like my sarcasm meter was off today.

Then again, it can be hard to tell sarcasm on the Internet, so ha! :P

Pointless thread. It's up to the parents what to name their child. Arguing that they shouldn't be able to pick a name is taking away your first right as a parent. And that's wrong.

Many of the most popular names come from this one particular book. So why not a game?

What a silly statement.

But the point stands, in its most basic interpretation. Nice attempt at avoidance of breaking a rule, btw.

It should not be of consequence to anyone but the parent.

Caveat: Sarcasm is conditional if an only if the premise of the topic is untrue. ;)

Anyone that would name their child after a video game character for profit is equally egregious. So I guess my hostility should be evenly distributed.

Seriously, name your [censored] hamster "Dovahkiin" for a video game, not your own blood!

Well, Dovahkiin is kind of cool.
I had neighbors from Hungary. They named one of their children Utila, which they say is the right spelling and pronunciation for Attila (the U is pronounced like in U-turn)
I also new a couple who named their kid Zarathustra, not after the man, but after the theme from 2001, a Space Odyssey.
And then there was this case in my hometown when a judge denied the parents the right to name their kid SidaAids (SIDA being the acronym for AIDS in Spanish).

.. so , yeah, Dovahkiin, not so bad.

Wait, what rule?

I'm quite sure he was referring to a certain religious book, which he deftly avoided mentioning, to avoid direct conflict about mentioning the book, and to avoid the attention of mods who would stop the discussion due to it breaking one of the forum rules.

Disregard it. If I had actually wanted to respond seriously I would use a PM, but I just don't care that much.

This topic is pointless enough as it is, so bringing up a rule breaking topic will only seal its fate.

Well, there's a fair amount of spam in here, and now it's creeping into religious references which were not really that "deftly" handled. So, go forth and name your baby girl Dovakhina :D
