Why are explosives (and everything else) so damn expensive?

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:03 pm

Everywhere I go, no matter the type explosives are insanly priced.
Actualy everything seems to be insanely priced.. and it changes from settlement to settlement. Is it partly faction based?

Does this balance keep up through the entire game? Or will I just eventualy wind up super rich no matter what like in F3? Barter useful in NV now?

Ive been pondering the viability of an explosives oriented char, though the stuff they use seems rather scarce and expensive. Not somthing to start out with it seems.

Barter is more useful. But everything is higher priced for game balance. Knock over the silver rush and loot that place for some good money.

Barter is definitely a useful skill in NV.....aside from the dialog options a high barter can unlock, those who complained that caps were too easy to come by in FO3 were heard and prices are somewhat higher in NV.

The main flingable of explosives users is dynamite and that isnt very spendy.. nades on the other hand ARE very pricey.

Are you kidding? You start near the Powder Gangers. Every one of them is carrying 2-3 sticks of dynamite and each of their campsites have 4-5 sticks. My explosives character is walking around with 70+ sticks of dynamite, and I haven't even gone anywhere besides the NCR jail and Goodsprings yet.

It is because it is a one hit kill weapon for nearly anything, even groups of enemies. Combined with a detonator it is one of the most useful weapons in the game for assassinating NPCs or taking out whole gangs of enemies in a single act while you can be somewhere in the distance and perfectly safe.

Frag mines, etc. are unpredictable, they also have a certain amount of time after they are triggered before they go off. Sometimes enemies can run past them. C4 is great however, because you can set up a choke point, go get the enemies attention and then sit back and wait for them to reach your kill box before destroying their world with a single click.

And taking out an NPC with C4 is a perfect assassination technique for those NPCs surrounding by guards, or are too armored or tough to take down with a silenced weapon.

That is why C4 demands such a high price.
