Forcing you to use Steam?

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 8:17 am

So I was just wondering if this game was going to be like Call of Duty: Black Ops where you buy the disc at the store and then Steam forces you to use it using their program? I don't know if anybody knows the answer but I do want it to do this, because then there is no need for putting in the disc every time you want to play it. Plus automatic updates!

I thought it was unconfirmed but likely? Personally I don't mind, and I'd actually kind of like it if it allows me to play without a disc in the drive or download it from Steam if need be.

I'm not sure if this is one of those heavily censored topics. We'll find out soon no doubt....

My guess is it will only get shut down if a flame war starts. There have been many Steam threads that reached the post limit without getting shut down.

It's fine to talk about Steam. It just can't devolve into a console war or flame war in general.

If it's not allowed it's news to me since I've seen several Steam threads reach the post limit in the short few months I've been active here.

I'm not sure, Jaomet might be saying it's one those taboo topics? Maybe it's ok to talk about it in Community Discussion?

i dont want it, becuse my internet svcks and connecting to steam just takes longer.

i hate when games make me have to download software from the internet that requires an account. most games have launchers that will check for patches

overall i dont like steam, nor do i like how my games make me download software that is, needless to say not part of the game itself.

Is it confirmed it's steam only?

While I love steam it does seem putting Skyrim on it, a singleplayer game, a bit pointless. A major reason games are put on steam is to cirumvent piracy in multiplayer games. For example because Black Ops' (and MW2s) selling point was it's multiplayer it was put on steam so people who pirated it could not play this aspect of the game. Same with all the recent Total Wars, etc. They won't prevent any people pirating Skyrim by putting it on steam because people can get the whole package for free with a basic crack. I know it svcks but there is simply no way of fully preventing people from pirating games.

I like what the Witcher team is doing by implying their primary goal is to provide a great product, and making profit is second to creating a great game. They're including no DRM protection. I think if Beth do this or use non-intrusive protection (think AC:II for a prime example of intrusive protection) then they're more likely to dissuade people from torrenting it.

Secondly Steam is used as a platform for a mulitplayer community and there's no way this can be used for Skyrim.

Love for steam and love for everyone who pays for decent games.

It's fine to discuss Steam, but we now have an http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1179634-unofficial-steamdrm-thread/ for Steam-related discussion.

From my understanding Bethesda has not discussed Steam in relation to Skyrim, so for now anything is speculation.
