I really loved it in Daggerfall, so yeah I wouldn't mind it returning

Instead of buying equipment, why doesn't your character just freestyle it with a series of button pressing to get you up the mountain, or just holding the left joystic up...

Didn't read the whole thread, but here's my idea for climbing....

In Oblivion, you basically just zig-zagged your way up the mountain. You ran basically the same speed (or at least looked like you were), and could really only go up certain grades (tus the zig zagging). It got really annoying and looked terrible.

Instead of only being able to 'climb' certain grades at the same speed, why don't they make it so that you can climb any grade, but the angle of that grade determines how fast you climb and what the animation looks like.

1. Small grade - player animation runs/walks at normal speed
2. Medium grade - player animation walks/stumbles/(puts hand on ground briefly) at a slower than normal pace. Like he's struggling a bit...
3. Steep grade - player animation is using arms and legs to grab/pull/push himself up the mountain, at a very slow pace.

I don't want a system where I have to zig-zag up all these huge mountain ranges like a moron. It will make the game feel too linear. At least with something like the process above, I'll feel like I can go up any mountain, but the sacrifice is that it might take FOREVER if I'm trying to go up a steep incline...

Yes to rockclimbing! As long as you can scale buildings like in Daggerfall, too!

I dont know about you, but I actually rock climb. I would love for it to be in Skyrim if done in a certain way. There would be a majority of vertical and overhanging rocks/cliffs which you could climb no problem. But also, if you are in a city/village with a rock with routes, you would rock climb normally, but you would have to time jumps, or in rock climbing slang dynos, manuever side to side rapidly pressing A as if clinging to the rocks, and depending on how well you do these, you would succeed and earn gold. The harder the route, the harder the button pressings and shorter time you have to do it, the more money you earn.

Sounds like you want a rock climbing arcade game. Interesting idea, but not something to add (in that manner / that level of detail) as just one more feature of an open-world RPG.

(Just like I wouldn't expect to be able to play SSX while snowboarding down the mountain ranges, just because there happen to be snow-covered mountains in Skyrim.)

you my friend get one internets for a perfect use of forum search. you could have just made yet another climbing topic but no you found one and contributed a good post. thank you

as for your idea, i like it i always feel a little funny trying to get up and down a mountain, sorta like my character never knew they existed and dosn't know how to travese them. your idea would make it feel much more natural and i feel that skyrim will need it as there are suposedly a lot of mountains in the game.

Yeah, it must be a coincidence.

Math is never wrong, thus I shall point out the flaw in your signature.

(x2- 1)/(x - 1) =(x - 1)/(x - 1)

This stage is false because assuming X = more than 1 then the equation is false, assuming that X = 1, then you end up dividing by zero, you never ever divide by zero and assuming X = less than 1 you still end up with a false equation since you don′t end up with the same number on both sides of the equation mark. One could also just say that since only one of the x-es is in the power of two you have a false equation no matter the number X represents.
On topic I′d hate the idea of getting gold that just "appears" for any task, it does not fit in The Elderscrolls series. And while rock climbing would be cool it has to be "all or nothing" climb everywhere or nowhere. Since certain towns will require you to go through a loading screen to enter them I guess you will not be able to levitate nor climb in Skyrim for the same reason you could not in Oblivion, unless Bethesda has figured out some way to implement it properly alongside those towns (forbidden to climb and levitate in those towns like in Morrowind in Mournhold ?).
