What happens when you reach max radiation? : Fallout: New Vegas

I have never reached max rads in any fallout game and i was wondering what happens if i do in New Vegas... do i turn into a ghoul or do i die? This is all assuming i don't have the perk which positively helps me with radiations, like the HP regen or half rads etc etc...

yeh I never did get that if a person did get irradiated that high it wouldn't kill you immediately it would kill you after a few days/weeks but yeh you die, and honestly what did you think would happen
