Roleplaying Very Hard hardcoe mode

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 7:13 am

I think I will be starting a new character tomorrow night. I plan on going very hard (playing hard right now), hardcoe mode, and roleplaying as....myself (thanks to another thread). I will try to make it as close to me as possible both SPECIAL and skill-wise (which means no power-gaming). I will also be using the robot as a mechanical pack mule, as I don't like getting people killed. I will limit myself to the amount of things I can carry both in weight and volume. If I'm sporting a chain gun, then there is very little else I will be able to have on me, save for maybe a small pistol on my ankle. Most likely I will have a medium and long range weapon combo.I will try and align with the factions I would in real life, as well as make the same decisions for quests and rewards as I would.

In real life, I am graduate-school educated and specialize in people (behavior, relationships, even A&P). Because of this, I have very high stats in perception and intelligence. While I know much about people, my inner geek stops my charisma from truly flourishing. Unfortunately, I know very little about guns, so that is something I will have to learn as I go. I have, however, took several years of Tae Kwon Do training, and am quite capable at hand-to-hand combat. I am within my BMI, and am capable of short bursts of energy (think football player VS soccer). So I put strength at average, and endurance and agility just below average. In a life or death situation(even if fictional), I always make sure I have the upper hand before engaging an enemy. I can manage finances well, and at the age of 22 had more in savings and stock than the majority of the American population. One thing my poor father taught me was the value of a good deal, and remembering that you're the customer. Businesses need you, while you don't need them.

I care about people, and while the wasteland may be about seeing tomorrow, there is a difference between survival and living. I will always take the safest route, avoiding conflict whenever possible. I will always choose the most humanitarian option. As far as luck goes, I never win anything, but thats ok because instead of depending on random chance (criticals), have become capable of calculating reliability and dependability.

Here's the creation plan:

s-5
p-9
e-4
c-6
i-9
a-4
l-3

Tagging skills Unarmed, Speech, and Barter

Traits: good-natured and Heavy Handed

Starting off I plan on relying on unarmed to damage since my guns/energy weapons skill will be extremely low. As I level, I will improve barter, speech, sneak (tactical advantage), and guns.

Now, the RPer in me says this will be ALOT of fun, but the power gamer in me says I dont have a chance. Any comments, tips, or advice?

Once I complete the main storyline on my main character I'll definitely give it a shot. I'll play Very hard + hardcoe and try to make it as realistic as possible ( build wise at least ).

Though I don't think a 9 in intelligence is realistic, I mean that's like saying you're another Bill Gates.

Maybe a 7 would be more realistic, not that I'm judging you but just saying.

Yeah, I weighed pretty heavily on both that and the 9 perception. What it comes down to is that I have to put 40 points somewhere, and felt that is what most closely resembled me and how I compare to society. It basically came down to statements like:

I think I am average in strength, I believe I am below average in agility, etc.

If you look at it mathematically though, your automatically going to be above average in some dimension. there are 70 possible points, but you get to fill in 40 of those. Assuming that the median is the mean, you start off 7.1% better than the perceived average. :)

Looking back on it now that it is all typed out and I'm able to reflect, I may make some changes.

Statistically speaking, the average person would probably be all 6's. I based the character on the average being all 5's. I may have to tweak just a little bit...
