Dodging attacks

Post » Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:29 am

My personal thought in this is weather it will be possible to actually dodge attacks. Not like in ES4 where you had to aqwardly move right or left at your walking speed but able to jump athletically to rather direction or roll out of the way.

The reasion I bring this up is because I have read (online don't have the source here) that when fighting with dual swords, or magic in one hand and sword, or magic in boath hands that blocking will be impossible. It would be nice to have dodge perks or some such answer to this. Because how do you fight dragons if you can't block or effectively dodge around there swings.

I think this would add depth to this game that was lacking in the previous game. What are your thoughts. My first post: 1.

So either you will have to build up your health

It's Al'Thor. There's no 'e' in it.

There's still a lot more to the combat system they have yet to reveal. I'd trust dodging does factor into it. We should see soon in any case.

....you made a double thread?... As I said in the prior,

No acrobatics, athletics, agility, speed means you better spam that sprit key like your life depends on it, same for the jump key. Think fallOut3/nv when it comes to limited character movement and trying to "dodge"

Yea by accident a error message came up and said it dident post. So I re sent it on im on my phone so yea.

Wow I hope they improve it over the fallout system that was a very static combat method and gun based not really close combat like how ESV tends to be shown.

The hope is there are mechanics we've not been told if yet, but the info so far is pretty much concrete, so in this regard there kind is little left understand

Again hope that there is a mechanic.. And please don't say dodge key, it would have been confirmed along with everything else, just hope that just exuded athletics and acrobatics are not in doesn't mean some kind of athletics skill is not in.... Todds demeanor on that and his repetition of such statement says otherwise though

Well take a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg
There already few threads about dodging use the search button, I agree about better dodging in Skyrim and think there will be martial arts or fitness skill thats combine effects of hand to hand, acrobatics, athletics and unarmored, such skill will useful for perks thats affects sprint speed and jump height as well dodging moves and hand to hand moves as unarmored it can have damage reduction from normal weapon perk and resistance for poisons and disease, leveling such skill will reduce fatigue usage for activities.

Im pretty sure it was stated that you CAN block with your sword it just isnt nearly as effective as a shield. Also when you bring up gameplay mechanics like being able to quickly dodge and roll out of the way youre going to get a lot of arguing here on the TES board because a lot of people like the game to be oldschool rpg style where the numerical value of your dodge dictates whether you dodge or not.

For me, i would enjoy either way...or maybe even a combonation of the two... two ways i could see this combo happening 1) if your dodge stat number dice roll when your about to get hit says that you will dodge, it would move your character for you for a split second showing that he dodged the incoming attack. or 2) somehow integrate a dodge key that you could maybe hold while pressing left or right and again if your dodge stat roll is successful here your Player character will dodge in that direction.

The issue i think is that a lot of people see actively dodging your self such as the rolls and leaps youre talking about are more for action games and less for rpg's where they want the numbers to decide what happens.
