Just a little idea...

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 8:44 pm

its nothing big at all really and im not gonna cry if it isn't in the game but do you think it would be cool if that when you shot someone with a bow from a certain distance the camera would follw the arrow as if it were attached to it, all the way to the target so you could see it hit them.

I think I've seen a demo of a game that does that now.

I really liked how DAO did arrows. It looked like they had tracers on them, especially the flaming ones.

while the thought is cool, technically it's not feasible. for example....what if your shot misses?

I think they did it in Heavenly Sword...

As for the idea itself, it's not something I would like to see personally.

maybe if it was a 1h kill it could be a type of finisher for the bow, but i wouldnt want it to follow the arrow while something else comes out and starts attacking me and im defenceless because my camera is following the arrow. maybe only happen after a check to make sure you are safe and nothing within x amount of distance of you is hostile.

Then you'd see your arrow miss and go in the grass or a tree or somefin.

If they did add something like this I would hope you can shut it off in the menu options.

I've done something like this with Oblivion with that mod that allows you to free the camera with a key press. I'll line up my shot, fly the camera over and then release my arrow and see it hit the target or not. I don't do it often tho... only sometimes when bored. :P

Sounds similar to the V.A.T.S. system in Fallout, where you see the bullet slowly trail to your targets head and watch it pop close up.

I can do without it. The more realistic Skyrim can be, the better.

sounds like the kill cam in fallout; new vegas. I turned that off.

I guess it wouldn't hurt if there was an option to turn it off for those of us who don't like that sort of thing.

maybe only as a critical hit kill, with that restriction it might not be that repetitive.

i'm okay with the idea at least.

Well camera thats travel with arrow in slow movement does it really need?
From other side thats can be interesting spell to guide your magical arrow to target, thats good idea for mod thats use scripted spell effect or for an perk in marksman skill tree thats require some levels in alteration school just like ability to channel spell into arrow with certain levels in Enchanting skill.

Personally speaking, the less cut scenes, kill cams, and finishing moves that take away from constant, real time control, the better. Had a gutful of cutscenes and what not in other games, keep TES, god I hate this word, but it fits here, immersive. In control of your character and his/her environment at all times.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas, on the same engine used by Bethesda for Oblivion, had a "bullet cam" mode that did exactly what the OP is describing. Technically pretty feasible if it's been done. :D

Could be nice once in a while. If it happened too often it might get annoying and repetitive though.
Maybe the activation could be manual. You wanna see that particular bow shot in slow motion? Press the "arrow cam" button right after firing.

I would totally be down for having the ability to control my arrows mid-flight! The only two games that I can remember that used this cool bullet-control skill are Jericho and Bulletstrom.
