Dragon Flight Speed

Post » Sun Oct 10, 2010 6:20 pm

I was thinking, what would an appropriate speed for dragon movement in flight? Should they be slow to highlight their size and strength (and to give the player a chance), or should they be extremely fast?

Slow and majestic, but able to gain greater speeds for longer distances.

Slow and majestic, definitely. The map is far too small to have dragons racing around at really fast speeds.

Someone posted a link about birds swooping and flying in unicen, I think it was Dragonborn1 but basically another poster said they'd shi* their pants if Dragons flew that Fast.

Im expecting a Mod for that.

I think dragons should be majestic, but not slow. Don't think I want an organic F-16 coming after me though, otherwise I'd have to change my pants every time I encountered a dragon.

They look pretty fast in the trailer. Since they are magical creatures I voted "jet fast" (and it seems I'm the only vote for that so far). I'm expecting them to move as fast as they do in the trailer, but I'd expect them to be able to move quite quickly when traveling.

I suppose since jets actually fly over my house all year round most of the time I might have a different conception of "jet fast" than others. I'm thinking a commercial airliner at takeoff and landing more than full speed.

They should be slow and majestic when flying straight or if they increase latitude. However, they should be frightfully fast when they dive down after you!

i agree with most people they should move slowly and majestic, but they should be able to move fast at some point

Dragons are not stupid, if they feel they are a bit heavy for flight it shouldn′t be beyond their power to cast a feather spell on themselves to make themselves as light as if they need to be to reach top speeds, if they wings are weak a fortify strength should not be out of their power either and if they create too much aerodynamic drag then... oh...

Well I voted that they should be able to fly as fast as a really fast bird, jets go faster than any being, fantasy or not, should go. You don′t want a dragon crossing Skyrim in like a matter of seconds do you ? But as fast as a bird or even faster should be a definite. Would be rather pitiful if the majestic dragons would lose to a puny bird in a race.

Well I think dragoons can also "sprint" while flying so they can both fly As fast as a fast bird and fly Slow and majestic, as well dragon that use slow time shout can fly Jet-fast for actor who still in normal time, I'm more interesting can dragons walk on ground or climb surfaces

Jet fast, but they'll still look like they're moving slow and majestically because of the height they fly and their size. It's like looking at an airplane, they don't loo they're moving jet fast, you can see them for a long time and they look majestic.

I imagine whichever dragon has the slow/stop time dragon shout will appear to be pretty fast.

Wow, Reign of Fire dragons look a lot like Skyrim dragons. If they move like the dragons in that movie, we're probably in good business.

I wouldn't expect them to turn on a dime, but I expect they should be able to pick up speed just by using gravity though.

I'm pretty sure that there will be different kinds of dragons like in the movie how to train your dragon and there will probably be a smaller then average very fast and agile dragon thats incredibly hard to keep up with or something along those lines.so every dragon will probably be different to some extent

As fast as a fast bird. Obviously, the speed should vary. When they're just cruising around looking for food and mates, it should be a slow speed. When they're plummeting down on their prey, they should be super fast.
