A fallout runescape

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:13 pm

I just watched the Van Buren tech demo and idin't think it was that bad. In fact it looked as though it had ties to runescape...just better. (I thought I would point out that I have not played FO1 or 2 or tactics or BoS only FO3) I used the search bar could not find anything but maybe since Interplay is working on the MMO it would be like a post apocolyptic runescape....maybe even free online streaming wit the members club being like the BoS and to gain entrance into the Citadel/other base you would need to be a 'member' : ) Thjis idea makes my knees buckle with anticipation for the end result of Interplays fallout mmo. And if i missed any important details such as realse dates/other info please don't be afaraid to post. :foodndrink:

Lets hope it's not some half-assed MMO like that. Free MMOs are almost always worth what you pay for them.

A MMO would ruin it as the whole point of fallout is the desolation. Afew million players ruins that.

Quoting Chris Taylor, lead designer of Fallout 1 and lead systems designer of Fallout Online:

There are some MMOs that require grouping for mid-to-late play (FFXI comes to mind) and almost all MMOs force you to group for the majority of elder play.

Personally, and I'm not sure how this yet relates to V13, I like a combination of solo/group/raid content, with different goals and rewards for each. I have almost always soloed my characters to high level and then joined a guild for a raiding, grouping with friends occasionally along the way. Pick-up groups can be heaven or hell, depending on the players.

Certainly, we are planning on the proper tools to make grouping as easy as possible, while still allowing solo players to participate.

I've seen some discussion here and there about how many players is anti-Fallout (or, more generically, anti-post-apocalyptic). I'd disagree, of course, otherwise I wouldn't be involved in V13. There are plenty of precedents for grouping and social organizations. Even the Road Warrior had allies during his cinematic adventures. In Fallout, NPCs were always available to join your group and there were plenty of social organizations that had a number of members.

My vision includes the lone wanderer, erm, wandering through the wastes and a team of individuals working together for a common goal (like getting a truckload of fuel past some raiders). In any MMO, there will be times and places that have more people than others (social centers vs. instances, for example). It won't be all of one at all times.

Van Buren has ties to Runescape. Because it's isometric right? Idiot...

First I'd just like to say Runescape is horrible and should never have been created. It's full of little kids for starters. Little kids who cry if you ask them questions like: How old are you? Where are you from? Why do you play such a retarded game?

Second, from what I saw of Van Buren it was nothing like Runescape. The graphics certainly looked much better and I'm sure the gameplay alone would trump the entirety of Runescape.

Except you never have to deal with a few million players. You're going to be dealing with a few thousand, at the outside, at any one time. Any reasonably sized MMO world can easily support a few thousand players without feeling crowded. Instancing could be scaled to increase this even further.

So? It still wouldn't have much of a point. Why make an MMO RPG about an RPG?

Because people want to play it? Same reason there's a Dungeons and Dragons game, same reason there's Ultima Online... same reason I keep holding my breath for a Shadowrun MMO.

Hello, children... I'm back with yet another point of view. First of all I just bought fallout 1 and have been giving it a go. Second the only reason that the van tech demo reminded me of runescape was because of the isometric view, this is loosely based on the fact that my nephew was playing runescape at the time i was watching the demo (take you brothers kids to work day...i know its sad) so i take full on idiotic quotes thus far for relating it. Thirdly I am starting to highly doubt the whole fallout MMO deal mainly because it may be related to runescape. And lastly I do believe that runescape is a piece of trash that should be discarded due to it's sheer quality and if I have offended any one on these forums for relating the two I again am sorry. So now that that is out of the way how about a new idea. I am open to new ideas or possible layouts. *puts on flame resistant suit* :flamethrower: :run:
