it's much different than deciding to add or remove a feature like fast travel, because fast travel has an obvious, functional purpose, whereas relationships and the like are much more gray area, and much more optional. not to mention the host of questions and decisions that need to be made...
how many different relationships can you have? will they be unique? the same? will your spouse get pregnant? if you are a woman, do you get pregnant? do you have an infant, or just a child appearing? how different will their dialogue be? will your family act different towards the acts you do in the world? will they not notice at all? can you have a relationship with anyone? are they pre-scripted, or generic? do you cater evenly to male/female relationships? do you cater evenly to homosixual relationships? what if homosixual relationships still want to have a child? do they adopt?
i'll stop there, you get the idea. it's not as simple as just "hmmm, should we include it? sure!"
i think thats like the third time you have mis understood me.
i know its far to late in development now to implement (third time i have said it) but if it was a plan from the start of development then it IS possible
and to answer your 20 questions it does not have to be walking up to a random npc and say "hey wanna start a family"
it can be one senario where you can choose to do it or not much like the tiny quest in morrowind where you could spark an interest in a certain npc(cant remember the name) but it never went anywhere they could flesh out a little storyline where the npc changes from male to female depending on the char and it ends up with you having a roomate or whatever. i guess people hear family and assume that you need to have kids or whatever.
again ill say it so that you might understand. I know its to late for this game. it does not have to be random npcs it can be a fixed quest in a town or village.
but i will say this. i do understand your reasoning and aprehension twards it i just dont agree. but to each his own ehh!
and to the dude a few up there with the neat story about the deadbeat\hero dad. a tes game encompases what maybe an ingame month for the MQ
i would understand if my dad went to save the world for a month (irl its called deployment (mine was gone for 16 months during operation just cause)). and the rest of the guilds are like jobs where you go away for a day or two but always end up coming back to town for more quests whats wrong with ppl who wanna roleplay going to spend two hours at home or bring a nice rusty sword for junior to play with. and anyone who plays longer than the quests is just doing it for the rp anyway.
i dunno why im arguing this point. as i said before i probably wouldn't do it anyway its just sad to see the lack of imagination givin the fantasy setting
edit: got my military operations mixed up
